Our ceremony is at a Church and ends at 3:30 but the Reception does not start until 7pm. It takes about a half hour to get from the church to the RH...
What are my guests going to do until 6:30? any ideas???
(The church will not allow us to stay passed 3:30 - I already asked)

Re: Time between the Ceremony and Rception
My timing is about the same, including travel time. I'm assuming most will check into the hotel. I might see if possible to put something out at the hotel. Other than that, I have no idea. The ones that are local, I assume will go back to their home. That's what I have done in the past with local weddings.
If you get any ideas, please fm me.
Good luck

Re: Time between the Ceremony and Rception
I have pretty much the same set up as you... 3:00pm mass (full mass) and then 7:00pm CH start time.
The BP obviously will be getting pics out of the way in that time span. As far as the guests, I know most of our guests are going to be staying at the hotel, which offers shuttle service to and from the RH before and after the wedding. They can't check in until after 3:00pm which gives them plenty of time after the church to drive to the hotel, check in and get themselves organized before heading over to the RH.
We don't really have anything planned for those who are not staying at the hotel. I was going to call our hotel to see if it was possible to make the bar there available for guests NOT staying at the hotel and if they would be able to take the shuttles to the RH as well. Hopefully this can be an option for our guests.

Re: Time between the Ceremony and Rception
Most locals will prob go home and change, or something to that effect. OOT's will most likely check into their hotel and get settled. I wouldn't worry too much about it. I've been to weddings with some time in between and I've always found something to do. Alot of times when my family gets together at the church...we talk and talk and talk so much that by the time everyone catches up....it's time to go to the reception anyway. They will be fine, don't worry!

Thanks ladies... I was actually going to change the date because of this, but I guess it's not a big deal after all!
My FMIL offered to have coffee/cookies at her house in between but I don't want to stress her out...
I think I will call the hotel (when I actually book it) and see if they will open their bar up to non-guests... good idea!

Its not a big deal at all.
Our ceremony was at 2PM & our CH started at 7PM. We did get married on a Friday so we didn't have that many people at Church. My parents invited people back to their house in between & they said they really didn't even have a ton of people.

My in-laws hosted a hospitality hour at the hotel bar for the infamous 'gap'. They had cookies, veggies, coffee and soda.

Same deal here. Local guests will probably go home. Everyone else, I cannot worry about- they will figure something out. for themselves. Maybe a local relative will end up inviting other extended family to their home- that is what happend at my cousins wedding.

Re: Time between the Ceremony and Rception
I live in Riverhead and most of my guest will be traveling. My mother hired two waitresses to open up my house and serve some refreshments and light snack during the time between. My church is at 3 and the CH is at 7..

Re: Time between the Ceremony and Rception
We also had a 3 pm ceremony and a 7 pm reception. I was not at all happy about that before the wedding as we had a ton of OOT guests, but looking back I think it all worked out.
We had our neighbor open up my parents' house where we had coffee, tea, and cookies set up. We also worked with the Northport Tasting Room and had a wine tasting arranged during the down time. The rest of the guests went back to the hotel room to get freshened up. It worked out great!

I had the same question, our ceremony is at 5pm and the CH is at 8:30pm. We're gonna be taking pics during that space of time, but I have no idea about my guests, I guess the can go back homw if they live near by?!?

Re: Time between the Ceremony and Rception
people will either go home or go straight to the hall to the bar or restarant that's there. That's what we did for our friend's wedding. There was a but gap I forget how long maybe like 3 or 4 hrs and we had fun in the restaurant

Re: Time between the Ceremony and Rception
People will definitely find something to do in between, especially the OOTers. My only thing is, I wouldn't want them eating before CH with all the food that will be there, it won't make any sense to go eat. Light snacks maybe..but they'll be fine!

Re: Time between the Ceremony and Rception
We paid an extra $1 pp at our RH to have our guests go directly from church to the RH and they'll have danishes, hors d'eorves and open bar for about 1.5 hours.
