time constraint

time constraint

We are having a 1/2 hour wedding ceremony at 3:30 and the cocktail hour starts at 5:00 1/2 mile away. Our photographer tells us that we need to move something to give him an extra hour. Has anyone else had (or have) this problem? The church and the reception hall are both firm on their times. We don't want to see each other before the ceremony but we are willing to miss the cocktail hour. What can we do?

Wow, that is cutting it really close. Even though your ceremony is only a half hour, you will probably be there longer if you have a receiving line afterward and to take some pics at church. Is there any way at all the church or reception hall could change their time. I agree with your photographer, he needs more time. Even if you miss your coctail hour, you will probably have to be pulled out of your reception for more pics because the times are so close. You don't want to rush your day, and having everything sooo close together is going to be tough. Could you get married at your hall? Just some suggestions and my opinion.

That is cutting it close....our ceremony is at 5:00...half hr drive to the reception hall and our CH starts at 8:00 and the photographer said it was cutting it close....it comes down to you being on time to the church, I have been to at least 10 weddings in the last year or two and never did it start on time, the last one last week, it should have begun at 4:00, she walked down the aisle at 4:35...thats a lot of time missing....then you have to move around a lot at the reception hall to take pictures, your not going to take them all in the same spot....and what Ive found with family pictures is things like people stopping to go to the bathroom, talk to a friend etc....you should really sit down and think about doing some before hand....or just really prepare your family and photgrapher to move quickly ....

I dont want to miss more then 15-20 minutes of our CH so we are taking pictures before hand.....

ETA' Could you add time to your coktail hr or reception? It does come down to paying all this money for a 5 hr party and you will be missing more then an hr of it and that might be worse then seeing each other before or paying more for extra time

Yes, that is cutting it close. FH and I decided to have an early ceremony and a big gap b/c we want to go to the cocktail hour, Our 1/2 hour ceremony starts at 2 and the CH starts at 6:30.

Also it get darks early in November. Maybe you could move up half and hour early for the Ceremony and half hour later for CH. Also maybe the the CH for an hour and half

If you're really opposed to seeing each other before the ceremony, you can still manage to get your bridal party pics out of the way. You can take photos with your family and all of your girls and FH can take pics with his family and guys. I think you should then have enough time in between the ceremony and the reception to take photos of just the two of you and some with all of you and the bridal party. If you do it that way, you may want to think about spending some more money on a second photographer, one to be with you and one to be with FH.

i agree with nferrandi. if you are really opposed to seeing the groom before (which i am , bad luck you know) then you can get some of the other pics out of the way before hand. then you will probably have enough time durig the cocktail hour to take the rest of the pics. i think otherwise you might have to take some during the reception nobody wants that. the reception is your party time i would either take pics before or ask them to move the times around.
