I have 2 questions for you (you all are so helpful!!)
How long should I expect an appointment to be at a venue? I would like to see one than one venue in a day.
I need the most low cost venues to visit. That sounds horrible but if I want to get married any time soon, I have to give my FN a low price. I would like to be married in the summer of course but I can also do February or April. Are holidays cheaper? I can get married any day in the summer (i have off because I am a teacher). Are Thursday nights cheaper than sunday nights?
Thanks ladies!

Re: Time Frame at venues HELP!!
I think you'll have to ask at a particular venue what their cheapest times are. A venue surrounded by pine trees is going to be more in demand in Feb/Mar than a venue on the beach.
It'll take an hour or two (depending on how long you're willing to listen to the banquet manager) at each venue.
Just remember, if they tell you $60/head, after tax and service charge, it actually equals $76. That's without all the other gratuities (like the bartender and coat check girl and bridal attendant).

Also consider doing a late evening (and therefore, hors doeuvres and cake only) reception.

Re: Time Frame at venues HELP!!
figure an hour at each place.
as for time frame, i would've thought Feb (b/c of Valentine's day) would be a little higher than March or April but I could be totally wrong. January will definately be cheaper and I beleive November is too.
Take a look at Leonard's of Great neck. Very affordable

Also check out Fox Hollow - we found it to be affordable. Swan Club was also reasonable.

I would allow an hour for each appointment. That's the average we were there. Some will be longer, and some will be shorter, so that's a good average.
If you're looking for price-concious, you should check out the Meadow Club in Port Jeff. Their pricing is very reasonable, and there's a decent selection of food. It's a pretty, country-ish place. It wasn't the right fit for me for many reasons, but it's definitely a great place to look if price is your main concern. I was given prices in the 60s for a Saturday night in November originally. Definitely worth a shot.

You have to figure out your price range first, that will allow you to narrow down where you have to visit. Good luck!

Re: Time Frame at venues HELP!!
I told every vendor I had no longer than 45 minutes because i was tightly booked, and it worked. Of course, we called the ones we liked back at the end of the searches, and in the case of the RH, went back.

It depends on the hall, but because we have been having such nice weather in the fall, October and November really don't get discounted pricing from many of the halls.
As a previous poster said, discounted months really depend a lot on the type and setting of a venue.
On average, the less expensive months will probably be in the range of December, January, February, March (basically the ones with the potential for inclement weather and cold temperatures!).

Ditto my date twin. And unfortunately October is still considered 'peak' wedding season, and November is not much cheaper. All of the halls that we visited or spoke with told us that Jan-March are the 'cheapest' months, as well as parts of December.
As for the actual venue appointments, they generally last about an hour. I personally wouldn't recommend visiting more than 2 halls in a day. After a while everything tends to get lumped together and things get confusing!

I didn't really get a break in NOV. I just got a deal because family friend. Still over $100-though I would recommend asking what your inlaws (FN?)believe is ideal price & that will help you

As other PP have stated, the 'low' season is November (sometimes) till March. We found really low prices in December, but we were competing with office holiday parties for places (luckily ours wasn't taken). The summer months will be more expensive almost by default. D
Depending on how many guests you plan on inviting, if its a small wedding, you may be able to have your reception at a restaurant which might save you some money.
I do recommend my own hall though, Danfords, as one of the more reasonable venues out there. The attention to detail is great, and we were treated like royalty from start to finish.
