Time of event

Hi ladies! I am sure this question may have already been asked but was curious to know how late will your reception be starting? I am getting married at our venue - pre-ceremony starts at 7:30, then fh and I will exchange vows and looks like cocktail hour will be from 8:30 - 9:30 then followed by dinner. Is that too late? We may be able to push up the time to 5:30 but I am not sure if we should change it or keep it the same. I know it will be a late dinner but I know everyone will definitely eat during the cocktail hour I am sure.

I am also getting married at the venue. I will be doing ceremony 5:30, cocktail hour 6:00-7:30, and then reception is 7:30-11:30.

Should I change the time or leave as is. FH is thinking about everyone eating dinner so late =(

If I were going to a wedding that had your timeline (which I would be fine with) I would probably just have a late lunch or snack before hand.

Some people my complain but I think personally it's okay, it's not like they are anticipating eating at 7:30 and then it's a surprise but you know people they will complain no matter what... Dinner is too early, dinner is too late, you should've done this or why did you do that...

Sorry if this didn't really help

I don't think it's too late, especially since it's on a Saturday so people can sleep in and don't have work all day. Mine is on a Friday and I know 5:30 is an early ceremony time for a Friday, but I know a lot of my family wouldn't stay the whole time if I made it a at a later time.

That does seem a little late for dinner. My DJ wrote out a rough timeline for us and it seemed like dinner was 1-1.5 hours in, so basically your guests would be eating dinner at 10:30-11 PM. Granted they will be able to eat at cocktail, but that sure is late for dinner! Also, does that mean that your wedding is over at 1:30 AM? That's a late night, I don't think a lot of your older guests will stay til the end! Sorry if that's not the answer you were looking for :(

Thank you for your honesty. Something FH and I will definitely have to discuss. Hopefully we can come to a decision to accommodate everyone but someone is going to complain either way. Lol

We are getting married at the venue. Our ceremony will be at 6:30, cocktail hour 7-8 and reception 8-12.

I think yours is maybe a little bit late only because I guess majority of wedding typically start earlier. But it just depends on your guests and the type of people they are. And like someone else said, it's not like it will be a surprise to them, they will know well beforehand the timing of everything.

Ask fox hollow about it. I am in the other room (garden terrace) and our ch is at 7. So they may not even be able to give you an earlier start time depending on when the other room is scheduled for and if there's an afternoon event taking place. It couldn't hurt to ask and I'd say it really depends on what you guys want. If you want to start at 5:30 and they say yes, then do it. I've never been to a wedding and looked at my watch and thought 'oh we're eating dinner so late!' Everyone is partying and having a great time so nobody really cares lol

I have the same timeline for our wedding. You would have to ask Fox Hollow because it seems like they run a pretty tight schedule and may not be able to have you in any earlier. Asking for an extra half of pictures seemed hard, but they let it happen since i have a Friday wedding. Honestly, I don't think it is too late - people are going to be snacking at pre-ceremony and cocktail hour.

For us the ceremony is 3:30 in Smithtown so we made our Reception start at 7:30 so we could get our pictures out of the way and be able to enjoy our cocktail hour! Our reception is 7:30-12:30 and I've been to one that has started at 8:30 and went to 1:30 and people were still dancing up until the very end!

Hi!!

Our church is from 5-5:30 and our cocktail is from 7-8, & the reception 8-12. I am starting to worry I won't have enough time for pictures but the other church times we could choose from were like 2:30pm or 10 am and for us that seemed like a huge gap in time...i'd rather things be a little later as long as things keep moving it'll be fine :)

I don't think its too late at all! My CH only starts an hour earlier than yours

The church is at 3pm. The cocktail is from 7:00-8:00 but they said the guest could start to arrive at 6:30. The reception is from 8:00-1:00. I know there's a small gap but I wanted to enjoy my cocktail hour w/my guest, and use this time to socialize with them.

Me and FH are night owls so we wouldn't mind a late night wedding. But I think it depends on your crowd I know older people might not stay the whole night.

I personally like a little earlier wedding-- maybe starting at 6pm for the ceremony at the latest. I just find that the older folks tend to go home if it goes past midnight. And then, you spend you last hour or so saying goodbye to people rather than dancing and enjoying yourself. My biggest pet peeve is when people say goodbye during the last dance or two-- just wait 10 more minutes and don't ruin the bride/grooms good time!

I happen to be doing a Sunday twilight wedding (4-10pm) but mostly because my sister is an orthodox Jew and we can't do anything on Saturday due to the timing of Shabbat. See what your venue can do-- even moving it up an hour is nice.

FH and I have been going back and forth about it over the weekend and its still up in the air. I told him we have to make a decision soon because when I send out our invitations I have to correct the time of event. Ugghhhh!

Let me know if Fox Hollow changes your time. If it works for you, I might try it also!

FH and I are still undecisive however, should there not be another event taking place we will be able to change the time to 5:30pm.
