are you putting an earlier time on your invitation for the ceremony or reception?
My ceremony is at church at 3pm, and the cocktail hour starts at 5:30 - We cannot be late on the ceremony because then we wont have time for pics in between.
So i was thinking of putting 2:30 for the ceremony and 5:00 for the cocktail - what do you think?
maybe it's not necessary to put 5pm for the reception, but I'm also thinking of people who will not come to the church or are maybe coming from work, I don't want them to miss the cocktail hour. plus, don't people nowadays just think the time on the invitation is always earlier than the true time? am I making that up?
thanks!

Re: time on invitation
people like to make cocktail hour so with that i would be honest and put the real time (remember the rule of thumb: if you feed them, they will come! LOL!)
but ceremonies are sometimes 'ehhh' to people so there a half hr window of meeting and greeting prior is okay

Re: time on invitation
i'm debating this myself. I'm considering writing 15-30 minutes earlier than the ceremony. not sure yet though.

I am putting a half hour earlier for the church since FH's family is always late--- but I am leaving the CH at the time it is- otherwise my always on time family will be ticked off

Re: time on invitation
i would put a 15 minute window not a half hour. I think it's rude to the guests who show up on time to make them wait an extra half hour. however, 15 minutes is fine. if you're worried that it'll look wierd on the invite then 30 minutes is fine. just make sure to tell people you know are always on time when to actually get there.
and yes, most people think the time on the invite is 'early' so i would definately pad it at least a little.

i'm definitely putting the time for a half hour to 45 mins prior to the 'real time'. I know it sounds like alot but my family runs on 'Caribbean time' and that translates to like an hour later than U.S. time

Alot of people do this. I am not gonna do it because there are other guests who actually do get there early and if they do so they'll have to wait around a while for it to start and don't want to do that to them. I figured hey i'll look out for those who actually take the time to make sure they get there early or on time and make it convenient for them rather than making it convenient for people who show up late.

Re: time on invitation
i was thinking about putting the time 15 minutes earlier. i am getting married at the RH so i can't let poeple come too early, since a party will have ended right before mine. There will be champagne and berries to greet the guests so I figure 15 mins is a good amount of time. I think I need to put an earlier time bc the ceremony is indoors and behind closed doors so if people are late, they can't get to the cermony at all!

I probably should of put a earlier time, since FH's family is late to everything. But I told my RH that at 7:15 if there are still people missing then we are starting without them. Most of his family was almost 2 hours late for the bridal shower, Im not waiting until 8:30 to enter they have to be shitting me.

Re: time on invitation
i have to say if anyone did that to me i would be REALLY annoyed
especially if it was a wedding i had to leave work early to attend - i ALWAYS arrive at weddings AT LEAST 20 minutes before and if i had to sit there for 50 minutes i would NOT be happy
my family and close friends will be there on time - if anyone is late i hope they have the decency to walk in discreetly.
