went to a friend's wedding party yesterday where they announced the bridal party- FH is one of the groomsmen.
Well she is getting married 2 months and a day before me and she has already ordered her gown, and picked out photography and flowers and almost everything I was waiting to do a few months ahead of the wedding since thats what i seem to read everywhere.
Granted, im not very into this weddintg planning thing (hence the Anti-Bride name for this site :) but shoudl I be getting this done already....im not ordering a gown or BM's gowns so that doesnt need to be done.
How soon does everything need to be done? Am I the worst bride in the world???

Re: timeline of planning
You're not worst Bride! They say that you should start planning within 6-9 months of the date. You have plenty of time.

Re: timeline of planning
a lot of people are doing it early because of their schedule... like me for example, I work sometimes even till 8pm so I began early not to rush myself later....

Re: timeline of planning
I only have everything planned because I am crazy :) I wanted to have things done way ahead. Don't worry- you're not the worse bride! Not even close
As for photography, if you have something in mind that you want I would try to do that a little ealier... Flowers you could probably hold off for a while... personally I would try to have as much done as you can by 9-12 months before the wedding just so you get the things you want
Good luck!

Never hurts to get things done ahead of time, but do what's best for you

Re: timeline of planning
now maybe you can help me with this:
My fiance and I have been together 6 1/2 years- living together for one of them and it totally feels like were married already. Im not excited about wedding planning! ::gasp:: I know...sick isnt it?
How can I have some fun with the planning?
My idea was that I cluck like a chicken everytime someone mentions the wedding or singing 'diamonds are a girls best friend' everytime someone asks to see my ring!!!!!
Let the sillyness ensue--got any crazy wedding games I can play??

Re: timeline of planning
My FH calls me psycho because i have gotten almost everything done except flowers and limos. But it is true you do things when you have the time. I am a teacher and I have the summers off so this was the best time for me. Do things when YOU can. Good luck

Re: timeline of planning
NY weddings are crazy.... you need to plan ahead like that because everyone else does
i would say to start booking vendors because once they are taken then they are taken especially if you have your mind set on a certain vendor
i think about a year in advance is a good time because as it gets closer there are so many other things to worry about Good luck planning

Re: timeline of planning
You're not the worst bride ever! I'm getting married about a week after you and I booked the hall and the church (FH hasn't seen either - he's just going on the assumption that if I like it, he'll like it)
I booked my florist cause I happened to be in my hometown and I drove past the florist my sister used in her 2002 wedding. I walked in and said 'hi - you did my sister's wedding - could you do mine in 2005?' they said sure and that was that - took 30 seconds.
havent done anything else - other than look at some photos of dresses online.
you have TONS of time!

Re: timeline of planning
Hi Anti-Bride,
We have a lot in common. I am not really into the whole thing because it is really his family wanting the big ordeal, not mine. But I had fun dress shopping, and we finally agreed on a hall. I am really into the cake.
I am lucky because he is really into the planning. I did not realize how lucky I was at first.
But anyway, other than the hall we have done nothing...... I figure 6 mos before we will do more planning.

I am waiting this week for the call to tell me if im getting hired as a 6th grade teacher.
hopefully, i will get that and be so consumed with school work that this stuff will be a way to relax and have fun instead of grading hw and papers :)

You are not the worst bride. You have plenty of time to do this stuff. I think if you plan too soon you will rethink everything and drive yourself crazy. I would anyway that is just me. Go at your own pace and dont let it bother you.

Anti-Bride -- don't worry about being excited, you will get there. Once you get into the full swing of things, it will happen. Does your FH help at all or does he just say 'whatever you want is fine'? Sometimes, if they're not into it, it takes the fun out of it. That's been my experience. FH gets worked up about $$ whenever I say anything, so it puts a damper on things.

Blondie:
FH has been ok with planning. When I ask him questions he will be totally into it but he isnt pro-active about it. I guess that' s better than most so I feel lucky.
