right now im booked for the following 11/23/12 - sunsets at 4:30!! 2 pm full mass & reciving line 6 pm cocktail hour
with mass over at 3 pm, i want to do some quick photos at our church after our receiving line...this brings us closer to 345/4 pm
this means probably little to no outdoor photos at our reception hall, by the time we head over there.
i know folks will say, its your wedding - do what you want. but honestly, as a wedding guest - would you be annoyed at having 4 hours between ceremony and reception? wouldnt you be less inclined to go to the ceremony? right now with 3 hours in between i feel like we're pushing it.
i probably will do some photos before the mass at the reception hall; but the fiance will NOT be there with me. im very traditional in that sense.
do you think its totally unreasonable for me to get photos outside with the full bridal party before sunset at the reception hall? are twilight outdoor photos possible??

is there any way you can change the time? our ceremony was originally set for 4pm and i changed it to 5 so we would have time to do photos beforehand and also less time between church and reception (my CH started at 7 and i only had a ceremony so it was 2 1/2 hours between church and reception).
like you, the sun set around 4:45pm on my wedding day, so we did get some photos outside of church that are 'twilight' - honestly, they arent my favorite because they are so dark. and receiving like takes a long time, especially if you had a lot of people at church (i think we had like 150 people at church and our receiving line was a half hour and trust me i tried to keep it brief! )
by the time we left the church (and a lot of people stayed behind to watch us take some BP shots outside of church, etc.), it was like 6:15 and we had a 20 minute drive to the RH. the time flies by so my best suggestion would be to try to change the time of the mass.
talk to your priest and see if you can do that. otherwise, why not do photos beforehand? my RHs will let you come by earlier in the day to do photos.
good luck!

Four hours between ceremony and reception is too long. IMHO two hours should be max. Even though your guest understand that you're taking pictures it's still a bit much to keep them waiting that long. And I think twilight photos are very pretty cuz you can have the sun setting in the back ground

thank you both very much. id rather not change the times; or have him see me before the ceremony. i think im going to keep it as it is. hopefully we can get some great twilight photos before 5 pm outside. if not, then the ones i take at the reception hall before the wedding will have to suffice!!! as a wedding guest, id be really annoyed if i had to wait 4 hours. actually, it happened once - and it was annoying! especially since you start getting hungry... or at least im always hungry! lol.
