I ask this because 2 close family members have a timeshare, and it's been offered everytime another family member got married, so I know it's a matter of time before one of them asks me about it.
My brother said he preferred to just get the cash at the wedding instead of the timeshare, also because they couldn't get the location he wanted.
Should we accept the timeshare if it's offered which would save us the room costs on our HM or just plan the HM our own way and let them give us a different wedding present?
Which would you rather get?

that's a hard one. It could be worth more than they will give in a gift, right? Has anyone taken the cash in your family? If so, was it worth it? sorry i wasn't more of a help.

We're looking into the Caribbean.
I know my brother has the timeshare through Disney, and can get anywhere in the world. I don't know about what kind of deal my aunt has, or even if either of them will able to get it during the month of May.
My other brother says I should just ask them outright if they can do it, since that's what he did, but I don't feel right just asking!

I think if you are presented with a destination that you would like to go to, you should take it. I wouldn't settle for a place that you didn't have your heart set on. Is there a way you can find out the location and then price it out to see if you will be getting a good location?

We were offered the same thing...Originally it seemed like an amazing gift to have the timeshare! But after much though, we would much rather have the wedding gift & use that for our HM spending or what not!

I think you should just pick the cash gift if presented with a choice. Although, if the location you want is available, then I would probably take that. HMs are so much money and if you are given it for free, that is a HUGE expense taken care of.

With the amount of money I ma saving by using the timesahre.. I would def take the timesahre. We are staying at el dorado royale in mexico for like nothing!
