TIMESHARES

So I basically know nothing about timeshares. DH and I are thinking that we might want to look into purchasing one but have not a clue where to start or anything about them. All we know is we would want one where we cound trade for other places so we dont have to go to the same place every year.

So, anyone who knows anything about timeshares, please tell me anything and everything.

Also, we would love recs on ones you have/where to purchase from.

TIA!!!!!

Re: TIMESHARES

My parents have owned for years in Aruba. If you want to be able to switch and go anywhere, you have to buy it in a place that alot of people try to switch for. They never switch but Aruba is very desirable so they CAN anytime the want. If you buy in let's say Florida you may have a harder time switching for Aruba, or an other really desirable location, because people don't give it up and their is a list of people who want it.

did that make any sense?!

My in-laws have one through https://secure.intervalworld.com/web/cs?a=5

they can go anywhere that pops up for a week. It's pretty simple, you pay for a set week and you can exchange it for place other people are willing to give up.

Yep, my parents own through RCI also. All I know is that they paid $10,000 in 1986. Now, they have 2 weeks, pay about $700 in taxes/year for each week. You can go pretty much ANYWHERE in the world. If you want to go on vac during a week that is not 'yours,' they charge you a fee. RCI Timeshares are also allowed to be passed on through wills and stuff so God forbid someone should happen to pass away. I'm not sure if that's common with timeshares.
