i went with one of my BM's to try on dresses yesterday. in the past i have gone w/ MOH, who is tiny and sexy, so the samples all fit her. yesterday, going with a normal size woman, it was impossible to gauge what complements and what doesn't bc all of the samples are in a size 6! do we just pick one and hope for the best??? there was no way to tell what looks good and what doesn't bc the dresses are so small that everything is skin tight (even with the zipper open). the dress we initially liked for the BM has straps, and even the top of the dress was so small that the bust was hiked up on her chest.
anyone have this problem and have suggestions?

I think it's absolutely horrible that bridal salons only carry small sizes. I dont understand it at all considering the majority of women in the world are a size 10-14!! WT@!!!!
Anyway...you can gauge what will look good on a certain girl just by the 'type' of cut you get..
For ex: an 'A Line' dress looks good on MOST shapes and sizes!! It's a little fitting up top and flares as the dress goes down..
'empire' is also good..however becareful b/c it sometimes makes girls look preggers!!
But for the most part.. A line is the way to go with different size girls in the wedding party.

Well most of the dresses fit my MOH and 2 of my BMs b/c they were more like 10's and 12's (BIll Levkoff) with a couple of 8's and a 14 thrown in there....so it wasn't bad for them. But one of my BM, who really isn't large, could barely fit into most of them--I felt really bad b/c as much as MOH and I warned her ok these sizes are going to make you feel like crap, the sizes are uber-small, no dresses will fit, I could tell it affected her (but she was grinning and bearing it for my sake!). She ended up picking a dress we didn't even see in the store b/c the style looked like it would be the most flattering (ruching diagonal across the midsection). My girls all had different dresses though, so that helped a bit. I think you kind of have to just know what looks good on you generally, and go for something that seems like that--if it fits a smaller person normally, then hope that the bigger size will work for you.

I think that's totally awful too. I think it depends on the store you go to also....some bridal salons carry bigger sizes. I went to one in bayshore and the sample was a 12....I would call and ask the stores who carry the dress you want your bridsemaid to try on...

My bridal party goes from size 00 to likely size 14. We have tried on dresses with mostly everyone and my friends who are sl bigger looked really good in a corseted back. They really liked the shape it gave them. It also looks good on smaller people. We went to bayshore bridal which had larger sized sample- 10-12
Dresses we have liked are Jordan 319 and Raylia- i wish i could see the Raylia dress in Blue...
The first dress is the Jordan- love the blue color i have seen. The second is the Raylia with me in the first pictures and one of my BM in the second very flattering (:) my MOH ( twin sister) and I are of similar statue so i was standing in for her)
some stores carry more realistic sample sizes, I'd call around first and ask what size their sample BM dresses are so you know where not to bother..
side note, my MOH lives in CA (where I grew up) and I gave her a style # to go to her local store to try on and their sample were all size 2's.... COME ON!!! My MOH is tiny like a 6 and even she couldn't fit in the sample... ridiculous!

I also recommend just going with an A-line. ANYONE looks great in that, especially w/ all jewelry, hair and make-up done.

i wish i went to places that had smaller sized samples - everywhere i went the samples were 10 or 12 - for bridal gowns and bridesmaid dresses - m girls and and i looked like jerks in everything b/c eveything was so big on us - especially me - i think that the samples dont fit a majority of people - whether they are small or large - thats just the way it is.....

d a huge problem with this too. My salon had a size 12 sample..but my FSIL is at least an 18/20...it was absolutely ridiculous b/c we knew the sample wouldn't fit her but they insisted on her trying it on.....i couldnt even gte a clear picture of what it's look like on her. It's hard b/c she's just a big girl and it will fit her differently.

i feel like they should have a few different sizes i know they are samples but im a size 1 and i had to try on a size 12 for BM dresses for my FSIL wedding i didnt feel good either

When my BMs were shopping around for dress, the first place we went to was David's Bridal because my girls range from a size 0 to 18. We weren't going to buy from them but we wanted to get an idea of what type/ shape of dresses looked good on them. It was so frustrating when my MOH finally found a sample dress that she really liked but she can't zip it up so I had to hold the dress for her.

I've only tried on bridesmaid dresses myself at David's and The Wedding Center. David's obviously is off the rack, so there's not a problem with sizes there. The Wedding Center had large samples. I'm a 6-8 depending on style/maker, and the samples they had me trying on were 10-12-14. I'd recommend them for the variety of sizes.

bridal suite of bayshore had bill levkoff dresses in size 18. I think they had other manufactures in 14, 16 and 18 too.

This is the problem I am having...since I do have some girls that are 00 and otehrs that are street sized 12....so I feel bad that they only have a size 6 as if we are calling them fat or too skinny.
And, that has made me a bit nervous to go dress shopping myself since I'm about a size 13 now for jeans, and still shrinking...so I'm scared that they wont have ANY gowns for me to try on! OY!

Usually an A-line dress looks nice on most shapes and sizes just because its so loose on the problem areas.
I have notices that at bridal boutiques have such SMALL sizes that most likely wont fit on any of my BMs. My BMs aren't overweight, but none of them are a size 4 either. It's pretty annoying since you can't exactly just imagine someone in a dress that fits perfectly if they can't try it on. I did notice that Davids Bridal have a rather large selection of dresses in many varying sizes.

thanks for the david's & bay shore bridal suggestions. i actually went to BSB a couple of weeks ago to try on gowns, so i'll have to go back for BM dresses.
i'm also comforted to know that i'm not the only one who's frustrated.

i had the same problem with my sister/moh and she was so upset. arg! so we are going to David's Bridal, they have similar styles (my color too so we may even order there) and all sizes...
