Hi Girls! For those of you who have done engagement shots, or those planning on doing them....Do you tip the photographer? And if you do, how much?? The photographer doing our engagment shot will be the same one doing out wedding day, so FH wants to make sure he gives him a nice tip....but we're not sure how much is 'a nice tip' Thanks!

Re: Tip Photographer for Engagement Shots??
We didn't tip for our e-shoot. This question has come up before, I think most people say they don't tip.

Re: Tip Photographer for Engagement Shots??
I am kind of wondering this myself. However, I don't think we are going to tip for E-pics because our photographer is the owner of the company, so I am pretty sure you are not supposed to.

What if your photographer for the e-shoot is different from the photographer for the wedding? Then should you tip? If so, how much?

i think most girls on here have had the same photographer. One of the points for the e-shoot is to get to know your photographer before the wedding, their style and get comfortable with them before the wedding. Why are they giving you a different photographer?
but yeah i would tip if it is a different photographer
and to answer the OP i tried to tip for my e-pics but photographer wouldn't take it.
But do what you want. If you feel like you want to tip your photographer for whatever reasons you have then go ahead do it, dont feel you dont have to if you want to. And if you dont want to tip them then dont.

We are not doing our e-shoot with even the same company as our wedding...we havent even booked our photographer for the wedding yet. We are doing it with a family friend who is trying to break into the wedding photography business. He has done all sorts of other photography (commercial work, ads, etc). but he really wants to get into the wedding end. We are signing a model contract with him. He does the shoot for free, we get a cd with all the high res images. But we're almost positive we are going to tip him...not sure how much though. He is really going above and beyond for us...he is even editing any images we want edited to our specifications..and im not talking about basic editing, im talking about airbrushing, removing background distractions, the whole nine yards. How much do you ladies think i should tip him?

Ooohhh ok makes sense. I thought you booked a photographer and they were sending a different photographer for e-pics. Well all e-pic shoots are free, when you book a photographer most throw this in for free, so all ladies have the situation with it being free BUT since he is not doing your wedding and wont get other money from you then i would tip very well. He's also not charging for the proofs or anything right? If this is the case then something between $100-200, whatever youre comfortable with though.

Re: Tip Photographer for Engagement Shots??
Its just kind of awkward though bc he's a family friend...we may book him for the wedding too once he has more experience with event photography. I'll update you girls after this sunday (the shoot) and post pics, a review of him, etc.

Re: Tip Photographer for Engagement Shots??
So I just thought I'd give an update, we ended up tipping him because we thought he did a great job! He took over 300 pics!! Can't wait to see how they came out!
