I am having the same dilemma...My DJ owns his business and on the bottom of the contract it says 15-20% gratuity appreciated...thats $300!!! NO WAY...I know I will have 3 people there, but I will give them 90-100... as for video, again they own, but do have an assistant and I'll give them about $30pp. My sister worked as a wedding photographer assistant and she said it is well appreciated when you give the photog a tip, but I always heard thats the one person you don't tip... So my answer is - I am not giving them an enormous tip, but something to recognize if they did a good job.

We plan to tip the DJ and MC since they do not own their own business and the photog assistant for the same reason. We are not sure of the amount, it will depend on the service and professionalism that day and we are taking into account the fact that we will be feeding them dinner.

I agree. If the vendor is the owner of the business no tip is necessary. Also, I think it all depends on the service that you get. I am going to tip a few of my vendors (non-owners)and I am also feeding all of my vendors. The food cost alone is a few hundred dollars. I think 10-20% is very fair. But for a DJ contract to say that a $300 tip is appreiated is not fair at all. You are paying him/her after all.

Is that spin around sound? I used them and that was at the bottom of our contract. We only tipped his assistant but I don't remember how much.

Any vendor that tells you what you have to tip them is wrong. You pick who you tip. I know i will tip my DJ and Photographer but they didn't ask for one or tell me that i have to tip them. I am doing it on my own. I think a good job deserves an award but they won't and shouldn't tell me how much i have to tip.

I'm stumped on this one as well. Both my DJ and Photographer have their own companies, and they are charging us so much anyway that I don't feel that I am required to tip them. Maybe I'll wait until that day to see how I feel about the job that they've done and decide then.Welcome New Vendors
