I've got a weird situation and wanted to get your take on it.
I have no idea what is a customary tip for the Maitre'D from my hall. Furthermore, I'm bringing in my own caterer so I'm not using the hall's food. An 18% service charge has already been included in my contract (I'm assuming this is for the waiters)
How much do I tip my banquet organizer at the hall?
How much do I tip the maitre'D (whom I've never met actually)
Thanks girls!

Re: Tipping
Maitre'd My hall says $3-6 per person
some halls say $2.50 per person
for me 350 ppl x 3 = $1050
what the hell is the gratuity they take! lol...
but anyways dont forget also you tip the Bridal Attendant

Re: Tipping
not sure what a banquet organizer is...
you have a Banquet Manager- whom you dont tip and than the Maitre'D who you will meet the day of the wedding or the week before depending on your hall...he organizes and runs your affair... hes in charge of the bartenders, the wait staff etc... and splits that $ with the rest...
and than there will be a woman just for you ..aka Bridal Attendent your supposed to give her $50-150 ... i dunno how much the norm is..not sure..

You do not have to tip your Banquet Manager unless for some reason he/she went above and beyond for you.
For the Maitre'd, the customary tip that I've heard is $3-$5 per person. You can leave that envelope open and decide exactly how much to put in depending on how good of a job he does.
The 18% that you already paid goes to the waitstaff, bartenders, valet I believe.

Nothing for the banquet manager? Really? She's the one that's been helping out every step of the way.

Yasenia's right - nothing for the Banquet Manager unless he/she has gone way above and beyond for you. As far as the Maitre D goes - Are you using the waitstaff from your hall? If so, then the Maitre D needs a tip. He/she will be coordinating the waitstaff and the meal itself (even though someone else is cooking it). It is normally $2-3 per person but no more than $500 or so it says in my bridal planner. I say, give what you feel is deserved and what you can afford.

Re: Tipping
that's how I felt too-- I wanted to tip my BM but he is no longer there-- so my problem has been solved!!
But I have heard $3a person (more if you think they did an exeptiona job) is usually the norm for tipping the Maitre'D and around $75-100 for thr Bridal attendant-- again-depending on how you feel she was for you

Re: Tipping
Thank you girls. Is it true that it's no more than 500? Also, how do I find out from my hall how much is customary. I'd rather not ask them directly.

I actually think the best way would be to call them and ask. My BM told us what was customary when we booked, so I think they would tell you what they recommend and/or is customary.
I am definitly tipping my maitre d based on how how much he did and helped out that night.
I will also be tipping my BM, she has been the biggest help of all, and we met with her numerous times so i will be giving her the highest tip actually.
The bridal attendant also will get a small tip.

Re: Tipping
I have a question that is not tipping related...
you said you are catering your wedding seperately...may I ask which caterer you used? I have less than 6 weeks until my wedding and I still haven chosen one yet.
