Tipping

Tipping

I know there have been a ton of threads on this, but I have a question about tipping the owner of a company. Our DJ and Videographer are both the owners of their companies and they are doing our wedding...am I supposed to tip? My family has been giving me mixed ideas.
THANKS!

Umm... MOST of what is on that web page is verbatim the same as what is on LIW's tipping article...

I'd be interested to know who wrote the original. I hope no one was copying off of LIW (and I won't even think it was the other way around!!)

This language appears verbatim in both articles, as does the portion following!

· · All tips should be given in cash. If the person serving you is an employee of the company, their tip should be in a separate envelope.
· No one/single person should get more then $150.00. For example: Let’s say your limo bus is $2000.00. 10 or 15% of that total is 200 or 300 dollars, not necessary.
· Tips should be given just before your vendor leaves. That way you can judge how much to give, according to the job they did for you.
· All vendors would love a thank you card. It is a great reminder of happy clients and let's face it, it'll help them book future clients.
· Giving vendors a favor/bomboniere is totally up to the couple and how many they can spare.

Oh, I know YOU didn't know!! I wasn't intimating it was your site or something!! I just find it very odd that the two articles were identical, though possibly the same person wrote both (doubtful since the site you posted is a Canadian web site, I think...)

I just thought that was entirely STRANGE!

It's Canadian? Maybe that's why they used the word 'bomboniere'! Never heard that before!!

'Bomboniere' is a Greek term for favor.

Maybe Ron is a closet Canadian...

(or closet Greek!)

To answer this question... It's not expected that you tip the owner of the company, but you may - so long as you were happy with the service.

Photo and video are two vendors I'd tip day of -- b/c they still have more to give back to you. I'd not want to stiff them and then have them in charge of my pictures. However, when dealing with the owner, it's a different story. If you're happy with them day of, I'd probably tip... and I'd tip the day of, not wait.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. FYI - we wrote the original article. We have a staff writter that writes everything for all our sites.

You're very welcome! To be clear, I did not think LIW copied the article. I just reported the info to you because it appeared obvious they were copying verbatim from this site!

I figured as much.

I think it's the intellectual property lawyer in me who saw that and said 'that's not right!'

Sorry this happens. They say imitation is the highest form of flattery, but this crosses a line!

Also, when you are original, be prepared to be copied!

Didn't know you were an IP attorney. You charge as much as my current attorney?
