Tipping...

I just found the following tipping guidelines on UW.

Do these #'s seem about right?

Hairstylist, Makeup Artist, Etc. 15%-20%

Delivery Staff (Florist, Bakery, Etc) $10-$15 per person

Officiant $100-$200 (or in some cases a
donation to the church (approx. 10% of budget)

Transportation: 15%-20%

Valets: $1.00-$1.50 per car (Even though EACH car will be tipping at the end of night?)

Musicians (not required but appreciated) $20-$25 per band member

Photographer $20-$25

Wait Staff $15-$25 per waiter.
(if not included in your catering contract)

Catering Manager $200-$300
(if not included in your catering contract)

Bartender $10% of Liquor Cost (??)

Re: Tipping...

I have no idea if it is right or not but when you think about it a normal tip is 15-20% - Most places it is 18%. I have read articles about the fact that america does not know how to tip properly and that many people WAY over tip making the rest feel that we are undertipping.
I know I generally over tip but I think that is because I worked in restaurants for a couple of years and I got some amazing tips and some losey tips so I tip what I feel I would like if I was in their place.
It would be so much easier if there was just an accepted percent rather than being told oh you should give 100$ rather than 18% of your contract price.

Are we really supposed to tip the photographer and video person at the end of the night?

Sounds about right, except I think it's a bit low for the photographer/ It your photogrpaher is the owner, than a $25 tip wouldn't seem too bad because he takes in all the profit, but for photographer's that works out of the studio, I'd follow a 20% guideline.

We tipped our photographer about $300, out of which he could tip his assistant, if he wanted to.

We tipped the band 10% which ended up working out to about $50 per member and $50 for the sound guy.

The limos had 20% written into the contract but we tipped him $50 extra because he was really nice.

Then we had the event manager, maitre d' and the chef ($200 each)

We left it up to our guests to tip the coat check and valet if they used their services. Same for the bartender.

It ends up being quite a lot of money, so you should definately budget for it from the beginning.
