Tipping Business Owners

Tipping Business Owners

My DJ owns his own company so his fee pretty much all goes into his pocket. Do I still tip him?

Also the girl who is doing my makeup charges $125. I gave her a small tip for the trial since it was no charge but since the 125 bucks goes into her pocket do I still tip?

Great question! I have been wondering the same thing...I have no problem tipping their assitants but do you need to tip the owner too? Especially b/c when you hire the owner the fee is usually more anyway...

Generally, you do not tip business owners. They are making the profit on the sale or service and usually charge more for their service as well.

For hair stylists, I have read on LIW that if the person comes to your house you do not need to tip since they are keeping all the money you pay them. IF you go to a salon for them to do your hair or make-up then you would tip the usual 15-20%.

I actually have discussed this vendors, even ones I am not using, who own their business and the ones I spoke to said they do accept/apreciate tips. Now of course you would expect them to say that but I kinda agree and think they should be tipped (for good service). When they own the business, all the money does not go into their 'pocket'. They have expenses like insurance, office bills, advertising, and so on. Of course the profit is theirs, but their time and effort are still worth a tip for good service the same way an employee of the company would have earned a tip. JMO.

I have three vendors who own their business and I am still going to tip, my videographer owns the business..but I know he will do a PHENOMENAL job..so im going to tip..I know its not required or expected though, my Dj is traveling in Jnauary from jersey to Long Island, was going to charge us almost nothing because my sister cuts his hair,so Im tipping him..and my makeup..only because shes just so great..how could I not tip. I just dont know how much to tip!
