Tipping everyone.

Tipping everyone.

Am I the only one that doesn't want to tip everyone who passes my way on the big day. Is it rude not to tip? I mean the wedding is going to be over by the time the tips would be handed out. Please Please give me some feed back on this. Thanks

I am big on tips, but I still mind it for the wedding! enough is enough!

However, don't worry about spending your day tipping, it should be someone's 'job'

I know what you mean. I read somewhere recently that even if there is a gratuity added to a bill, you should give an extra tip. Yeah right. I'm not made of money.
If you put the amount of money that you are shelling out in tips, that is like major bucks.
But I know, I have to tip people. It's just frustrating.

What are the suggested amounts for tips?

Father & BM are supposed to be responsible for the tips. Sounds like from this thread that no one has ever worked in the service industry. If you have a great bartender - give him a tip. If your photographer's assistant is great give em a tip. Why wouldnt you tip just because the wedding was over - that doesnt make any sense. You tip after your dinner is over dont you?

I will probably only tip the photographer maybe another vendor but the bartender will definetely not get tipped I am paying a 20% service charge already. When i was searching for my site everyone to Oheka ans so forth told me that their staff is compensated very well. I think only the maitre D' deserves more since they are in charge.

I'm not tipping just because someone says to. If they deserve it- I will but not just because. I really hate the limo thing b/c they add 20% and the drivers still expect cash. The BManager is different but I still don't like it and if things aren't to my liking .....

tipping is part of everyday life= when you go to eat out, when you valet park eetc...

remember the people you are tipping are NOT the owners of a business. You do not need to tip the owners and of course, you are not required to tip vendors you are not happy with.

If you just cannot afford it, (I know that story) try to give a small amount in a card. At least you are not bypassing it all together.

We tipped our vendors. I think its up to the individual. They do work a long day!

I gave my envelopes to my father to pass out. I only tipped the Matre D, the ceremony musicians, the DJ , the videographer, the photographer and the florist delivery guy, and if I could do it over again, I wouldnt tip certain vendors , such as the photographer until I saw my proofs, in my opinion, I over tipped and I wish i didnt do that,

It is frustrating all the tipping that's expected for a wedding. It's like, everyone knows you are spending big money so they all want a piece. Honestly, those tipping lists are useless to me because in reality, everyone and their mother wants a tip on your wedding day. For some reason, (in most vendors eyes) there would be absolutely nothing wrong with you tipping every single person that crossed your path on your wedding day. Yes, tipping is a part of everyday life and people take advantage of that to no end when someone has a wedding. Some vendors deserve tips. I don't think tips should be expected just for doing what you are already expected to do and being paid to do. They should be given for a job well done above and beyond what you are already paying for. Unfortunately, that's not the wedding industry. The wedding industry is 'hey, I showed up, now tip me 20%'.

Sorry for the vent, sometimes this tipping thing really bugs me too.

this is vendor dependent. my photographer and band work for themselves, not a parent company. traditionally, one does not tip the owners as their prices reflect and include a tip. i am still undecided as to how i will handle these vendors. my reception hall includes a gratuity charge and maitre-d fee. i asked if any additional tips were expected, and the answer was 'no' and why they write the contract in the way that they do...

if vendors go 'above and beyond' a tip will reflect that. but everyone has a different opinion as to what 'above and beyond' is, so everything is so subjective...

our best man was in charge of handing out the tips:

we tipped the

maitred d and captain of the room at the Watermill
Bridal Attendants- they gave me two since i had a large bridal party
DJ and MC
Videographer
flower delivery guy

we didnt tip the photogrpaher since he owned his business..

keep in mind that we paid for these people to eat!!! the videographer, photographer and DJ/Mc sicne they are there with you for the whole night. It doesnt cost us full price but still thats more money!!!

I am not 100% sure who is getting tipped what just yet, but definitly not the bar tenders or waiters.. eveyone is eating and drinking for free... besides the gratuity we already pay guests are constantly tipping bar tenders!

Re: Tipping everyone.

actually being former bartenders, my husband and I, we tipped the bartender... nothing big but we used to be in that position... they made great money from our wedding but worked their butts off. Lets just say that they had two bartnders on but had to put on a third!!!! thats what we get for inviting Long Beach to our wedding. Its a constant party!!

but thats my situation... you tip who you feel should be tipped not because tis the norm... its ridiculous how much money we spent on tips when our wedding was a fortune to begin with....
