I'm getting a trim and highlights tonite and was wondering what percentage do you tip when the same woman does both the trimming and the color? I'm always worried that I'm giving too much/not enough.

Re: Tipping for hair?
I think the rule of thumb is similar to in a restaurant -- 15-20% of the bill.

Re: Tipping for hair?
I tip $3 for every $10 I spend. The last time I did my highlights and got a hair cut, I spent $90, so I tipped her $30.

Re: Tipping for hair?
So if highlights and trim are like $130, then she should get $30??? What about the shampoo girl?

Re: Tipping for hair?
20%...and maybe more if she does a phenomenal job and you want to go back. TIP=To Insure Proper Service...so I find that when I tip them well and plan on coming back, the color looks even better than the last time.
Of course, if she sux then don't give her 20%. 10-15% maybe.

Re: Tipping for hair?
Shampoo girl gets $3-$5 depending how well she massaged your head and how long it lasted.

Re: Tipping for hair?
I used to pay $120 for my highlights and a hair cut. I give that much as a tip because I love the way she does my hair. I give the shampoo girl $2. When I get my nails done, it is $27 (nails & pedicure) and I give the girl $5 and $4 to the girl that does my pedicure. I am a very good tipped when it comes to service.

Re: Tipping for hair?
I usually tip around 20-25%. Depends on the service and how many people actually touch my hair. Last time I got color - 3 different people worked on me so that spread the tip a little thin. I felt bad, but then I can't be expected to pay $80 for the process and then tip $40.
