tipping for hair/makeup

tipping for hair/makeup

Hi girls
My best friend is getting married in less then a month - and we are getting our hair/makeup done together. We are paying $150.00 for both - do we still need to tip her? It is her own business and my friend is already paying extra for the stylist to bring an assistant and is paying her a travel fee.

What is your opinion?

Me personally, I always tip. For hair & makeup I'd tip at least $20.

I didn't tip when I got my hair done as a bridesmaid last summer. I would think that would be the bride's responsibility, but I'm not sure.

I've always tipped for hair/makeup when getting I was a bridesmaid. I tip 20% and will be doing the same the day of my wedding.

I'd always tip. Even $20 can make a difference to her and show appreciation. I work for tips and to be honest, regardless of what job it is, if someone didnt tip, I'd be insulted.

I am a makeup artist and although I never expect a tip, it is definitely nice and appreciated for the girls to express how happy they were with my services. Anything is appreciated... even $5!

I would also think that's the bride's responsibility but if you have the $20 to spare it would be a nice gesture to your friend because all us brides know that every bit counts!! Although, I'm very torn about people who work for themselves.. :-/ still haven't decided myself!

Crashing

I tipped for my wedding, not quite 20%. For hair I gave the assistant a little extra since she did an extra person. The main stylist I gave a smaller amount because I also had the travel fee which I looked at as a tip. I was an extra 4-5 miles out of the zone. I paid entirely for this service.

For make-up, the girls paid for. They added a little extra but not 20%.

I don't think it is necessary to tip 20% since the hair/make-up people are the owners and get all the money. I did tip because they were all on time and very professionally. Everyone looked gorgeous.
