Tipping help?

Ok, so it has always been my understanding that the Photog and videographer DO NOT get tips, especially if you are feeding them Is this correct??

Also, how much to tip iMAitre'D, / Captain? Thanks!

We are having 290 PP if that matters!

ETA: During my search I am seeing $100 per Photog/Video AND $3-$5 PP fpr maitre D?

We were told $5-7 for the maitre'd but that was crazy high and I thought the guy was useless so he got about $4pp.

We didn't tip our photogs and videographer for 2 reasons... 1 - they both owned their own company and we paid an arm and a leg ($6500 photo, $3200 video) and 2 - we haven't seen a finished product. We decided that if we were completely in love with our photo/video we would send them something then. I just think it's odd to tip someone that night who isn't going to deliver a finidhed product for a few months. What if the pics/video suck? Just because they showed up doesn't mean they deserve a tip. The DJ, maitre'd, limo drivers etc all finish their 'service' that night, you know how they did so it makes sense to tip at that point.

Do not tip the video and photo if they are owners. That money goes straight into their pockets. I think we gave the video guy $75 (he was only there for about 6 hours) and the photo $100 or $125 I can't remember.

As for the Maitre D' we gave $3 a head because we had a lot of people but had extra money so we throw a couple extra bucks in his envelope.

I couldn't imagine not tipping them. They are with you the entire day. I was advised $50-$75 per photographer and $3-$5 per maitre'd especially since the tips are split with the waitstaff.

Since you are feeding them is no reason not too tip. You have to feed all of your vendors. You don't want them passing out from starvation or leaving your party to go get food. I'd imagine you would be pretty upset if they did that.

I am well aware that the vendors need to be fed, and that was never not an option.

However, when someone is paying a pretty hefty photographers bill, and he is the owner, I have heard conflicting views on whether to tip him/her or not....my understanding was to tip the assistant.
