tipping help PLEASE

tipping help PLEASE

my friend is getting married on Sunday and says her contract did NOT include tax and gratuity. Most places I looked at had either 18% or 20% added in.

so how does she figure how much to give? should she do the 18% or 20%? it's in Nassau County if that makes a difference.

she's also trying to figure out how to tip the bartenders, waitstaff, etc, etc. is that included in the gratuity? or is this something that the maitre D tip goes toward.

i'm trying to help her out but every post i see on here is from 2005 or 2006 lol. is there a current one?

thank you so much!!

Usually the 18 or 20% is for the bartenders, waitstaff, bus boys, etc. Then the 'recommended' tip is for the maitre'd. I would say maybe tell her to have 20% available, and if the staff does the work to deserve the 20% to give it. If not, give 18%.

Re: tipping help PLEASE

I believe so. My RH includes 18% gratuity but said we also should tip $3-5pp for the maitre'd. They said nothing about tipping bridal attendant, bartender, valets, waitstaff, etc.

However, I'm sure we'll throw each of them an extra tip at the beginning of the night to ensure premium service

1 last question, tax i'm assuming is also not included within the 18-20%?

Laura, thank you so much

they 18-20 wouldn't include the bridal attendant.....

Have her confirm with the RH because every place I dealt with this was included.....and it was even included when I had a party at a non-RH a few years ago.

My RH taxes the 18% service charge.......that's why they call it a service charge If it's a 'gratuity' they can't tax it.

So for me to get my RH total, I need:

Price pp x number of people = A

A x 18% 'service charge' = B

(A+B) x 8.625% = C

A+B+C = TOTAL RH COST
