Tipping people who own their businesses

I know this has been posted before, but did any tip a person who owned their own business, like a hair dresser or photographer? I feel uncomfortable not tipping, but is it proper? What did you do in this situation?

Also, how much do you tip the bridal attendant?

I tip no matter what whether it's the owner or not. I don't feel good if I don't.

My hair stylist is the owner and he won't accept tips. All the money he charges, goes to him (after costs, of course). As for photographers and such, I don't know - I would tip them.

Carmen, my hairdresser, sometimes cuts hair out of her house (she has a little salon set up). A friend of mine had her hair cut at the house and almost didn't tip Carmen. She had thought that since Carmen was pocketing all the money that a tip wasn't necessary. But she found out through Carmen's husband that Carmen gets very insulted when people don't tip her, because to her, a tip is a sign of a job well done.
I understand her point of view, but I don't necessarily agree with it. If you're pocketing all the money anyway, why expect a tip too? So I guess it's up to you whether you tip or not.

Hairdressers I tip because they usually bring other girls with them. The owners no because on top of making a profit, I'm paying for their food. No thank you.
