tipping photographer question

tipping photographer question

According to the knot, if your photographer is the owner of the company you don't have to tip them. Did/Is anyone following this rule or are you going to tip them anyway. My photographer is Paul Marino and he is his own company. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

I think even though he is the owner you would have to tip them anyways !!!!!!!!!

I dont like the whole 'not tipping the owner' rule. This person is still doing a service and if you feel he has gone above and beyond then he should deserve a tip. but then again its entirely up to you. I tipped Thomas Paul just because he had already given me an awesome price for everything and the day of my wedding he really did a wonderful job.

From what I've seen here brides have posted that they tip $50-$100 the day of. It's not a percentage as far as I know.. also it's not necessary to tip for the engagement shoot if you are tipping the day of.

my photo is the owner and I am not tipping him. Pics and albums are just out of control...he is making 100% profit which is a LOT of $$$$$$$.

Sorry dude...I'm paying you enough and I'm B-R-O-K-E

You should ABSOLUTELY tip the photographer, even if he's the owner.

A tip is to show appreciation for a job well done. Yes they keep the payment you give them for their services, no it's not all profit. They pay for the their own equipment, film, gas, time, etc. You tip him just like you tip any other vendor that day, OWNER OR NOT.

I think it's ultimately up to the bride and groom, and it's not 'mandatory' to tip the owner of a business because they keep all the profit. The price for film, equipment etc is already factored into the price you pay. Normally a tip is given to the people who work for the owner because they get a salary which is much less than the owner receives. For example, you're not supposed to tip the owner of a salon if they do your hair, but you are if the hairdresser works for the owner because they have to pay to rent the space from the owner. Again, it's up to the bride and groom or the customer as the case may be....there were a few dramalicious posts about tipping a while ago though...

No, it's not mandatory and yes of course it's up to the bride and groom.

I didn't say you have to tip, I said you SHOULD, owner or not.....you just said the price of all the equipment and everything is factored into the price, your'e right, that was my point....people think they take the fee home all as profit, they do not....that's what your tip is for. And for the record, I'm well aware of all the tipping threads, this is the same view I have on all, as do alot of girls...... you also SHOULD always at least try to tip the owner of the nail salon, or the hair salon or your vendor/owner, if they don't take it then fine, but you should ALWAYS try, to me it's rude not too......and I've never had an owner, my own vendors for my wedding or nail salon owners for that matter, refuse my tips. And I'm sure they were well appreciated when I gave them and that makes me happy since they did an amazing job and deserved the tip......and I wanted them to know how much I appreciated their work.....but to each his own.

we tipped -- photo and videographer were co-owners of company, and I we also tipped the assistant. We really loved them, and appreciated their work. They also went above and beyond our expectations.
