tipping problem (Vent) Need help

My FH is really bented about the tipping problem. (FMIL is telling his that she never heard of this so she is not helping)
He can see us having to tip the Limo guy but the
Band, Video, Photogragher he cannot.

The Band is a three peice band (Tangerine Music) we are spending $ 1500.00 and FH think's they are already making enough money off of us.

The Video Guy we are spending $ 1000.00 and he does this as a side job (Hobbie) so this is all profit really.

The Photo guy this is also his business but he also has another job I believe. I cannot remember how much I am spending but he was not too expensive at all.

So this is why he thinks we do not have too...I disagree.

How much would be good to tip the band?????

Do you have to tip the video and photo guys that night or do you do this when you are all done...

I had no idea you are suppossed to tip these guys and we are having problems coming up with the last few dollars so this just added fuel to the fire...

At my wedding I did not tip vendors if they are the owners of the company. I gave the DJ a tip b/c the owner was the emceee. I did not tip my photogs or makeup/hair person either. I gave the maitre'd a very nice tip ($150 for a 60 person wedding). IMO the only person you've mentioned that you might want to consider tipping after the event is over is the band if they did a great job, but that's just my opinion!

I would tip the band, too. Maybe because I am a musician, but I think so. 25-50 bucks would be fine, probably 50 since there are only three. I also think it can get a little absurd with the tipping, but hey, what FH doesn't know won't hurt him. Slip someone some money to give to the vendors if it will ease your mind.

I think you should tip who you want to tip, if someone does a really good job and goes that extra mile to make you happy then they deserve a tip. but in no way is it implied that anyone is entitled to a tip.

I worried about this for a while also then decided that if i didnt want to tip someone then i wouldnt. just b/c they show up to do their job doesnt entitle them to more of your hard earned money.

I have to agree that tipping the limo person is enough, your band is getting over paid as it is.

Usually the limo company includes a 20% tip in the fee already, so make sure you are not double tipping.

I have the same problem with my FH, he does not believe in tipping most of the vendors (nor does his mother). If I had a dollar for everytime I heard him say 'no one tips me at my job!' Plus, he thinks we are being housed by vendors on LI, as he is from upstate and weddings are much cheaper there. We have had numerous 'discussions' about this, and still no solution. I will probably bring envelopes of my money for the DJ, Photographer and matire 'd. I dont think I am tipping any other vendors.

personally I would always tip.....
even if the grautity was included I would still
tip, but a smaller amount... :)

I always tip extra even if it is included.

we tipped everyone...but you do not have to tip people who own their own business...

with the 3 people band...are they going to have a chance to eat? if not...a tip is definitley appreciated...

also do they have the crowd on their feet...did everyone enjoy them? I would tip them...

I think $20 or so a piece would be appreciated

I really don't understand why alot people feel its okay not to tip the people who are making you special day that you have planned for, for as long as you can remember. Most people in the industry put their heart and soul into making your day the most memorable days of your lives! So why is it always a struggle for those people to receive a tip for the service they render??? If it wasn't for those people, you wouldn't have a the 'Perfect Wedding' the 'Perfect Pictures' the Perfect video or You wouldn't have everyone dancing in your wedding.
So the next time you question whether or not you should tip, remember they are the people who are responsible for making your Day PERFECT!!!

I normally don't post that much much but I wanted to respond to this post:

It is not a struggle to tip people but you have to remember that they are being PAID for the service they render, and in most times when it comes to wedding extremely well. It is not being provided free or charge. I'm planning on tipping but I do believe that a tip is earning with extraordinary service. I am already paying for 'regular' service.
