Tipping Question !!!!!!

In my contract for RH there is an automatic 20% gratutity added on. She also told me NOT to forget to tip the mat'd 4-6 bucks per person...now tell me if i am giving the mat'd 700 BUCKS what is the 20% gratutity FOR?

Also, I am having 4 vendors, that are not on the prefrerred list, so these people have a regular meal (100-200 PER PLATE depending on ur RH) and then we have to TIP THEM TOOOOOOOO???

I just did my tipping list....and its almost as much as the wedding!!!!!!!!! Ok, not really but you get my point !!! GEEEZE

The 20% gratuity is probably for all of the wait staff, bartenders and valets.

ETS: I feel your pain with the whole tipping thing, but if you were doing their job, wouldn't you want a tip to? That's the way I have to think about it bc it is a lot of money that we have to fork up at the last minute.

The 20% gratuity does not go towards the matre'd- it goes to the house- to help pay for the staff. That is why you have to tip the matre'd separately.

All vendors should be 1/2 price no matter if they're their preferred vendor or not- IMO that is bad practice.

no most maitre'd dont distribute THEIR tip to the staff. At my rh they told me he splits it with the BM that we booked with but nothing about waitstaff. I think they also mentioned cook if i remember correctly but not 100% sure.

the 20% is for all the other staff's salary but not maitre'd

ETA: i agree that it should not be full price, INFACT i never heard of paying full price for a vendor. for us it was free if it was house vendor and half price if they weren't

No, usually the Matre'd's tip is for him/herself. Each hall might be different but we had to pay gratuities as part of our contract.. that is what they distribute to the staff working your party.

Most of the time vendors are 1/2 price and house vendors are free. Again, all halls are different but that's what the majority do.
