Tipping Question (Hair & MU) w/Poll

If a makeup artist/hair dresser works independently (i.e., is coming to your house and works on her own, not for a salon) do you need to tip and if so how much? I've seen many posts saying you should tip 15%-20% as you normally would, and other posts saying that these independent contractors shouldn't be tipped b/c they price their services at what they believe they are worth, and that they are keeping all the $$ and not sharing with a salon.

What do you think?

I am tipping my hair and makeup person because they are the same person $100.

I tipped. To make it makse ZERO difference. They may not be working for a salon, but because of this they have to buy all of their own material, pay for gas, etc. You are paying for a service, which they are performing, regardless of location. The pay goes toward their supplies, gas, time, etc.

Tipping is an expression of appreciation, plain and simple. Appreciation gets shown no matter where they are working, jmo.

My girl is an independent worker but we are all tipping her, anyway. Her prices are so low and she is travelling pretty far (and during rush hour traffic, too) so I am definitely appreciative!

Would you tip even if the person doing your makeup is the sole owner of the business, and the only worker there?
