Is everyone doing this or did you do this? I never thought about this before, but people have mentioned they did this. I am confused. The band is expensive and wants to be paid in cash, so don't they divy up the money?

i think you have to to tip the band. You should give a total amount to the band leader and let him split it.

Yep, you have to tip the band a certain amount per member.

Our contract only says that we HAVE to feed the band. When I booked I asked what the required tip was & I was told that a tip is not required. If we would like to tip we can. We plan on tipping them $25 per person. My friend had the same band & thats what she gave them & the band leader called her the day after the wedding & said that it was an overly generous tip.

I flat out asked the guy who we met with about this. He said many times people put all the money into paying for the band that they wind up not tipping. he did not make it a big deal if you do not tip. he said at most $50/per member of the band (and this is an expensive top of the line band) so if your band is not the top i would say even less...
I did not think about how much I am actually going to give but we are also feeding them (which is not required by our band) so i figured we can give a little less.

I couldn't imagine NOT tipping the band It's no different than tipping a dj, photog, DOC, etc.

we tipped $50 per person. on an 11-piece band- pretty hefty but they did an AMAZING job!

We were told by the agent that the band should be tipped at least 10%. Our band was 13,000 so that was an additional 1300 (we gave more than that)...it was heafty but the band is what makes the entire party and if you hired them because you really liked them then it's worth showing your appreciation.
I guess every band is different but I would ask the managing agent.
