We were told $4-$6 per person. At first I scoffed at that and said I didn't want to tip him that much. On the day, he went so above and beyond what we asked (and the fact that we gave him like 4 pages of notes on how we wanted things set up) we felt he more than deserved that. We wound up giving him $1100 for a tip which is a little less than $6 per person. He earned it though.

my RH told me $3-5 per guest attending. We're going to put a lower end amount in an envelope and if we see he goes above and beyond, we'll give him more.

Since the MD takes over for the BA when she leaves after your toasts, you could always give him a portion of the extra you plan to give your BA. But don't forget the BA is included in the WCC contract.

We gave a bit extra for this reason. He was fabulous though.

Re: Tipping the Maitre D

maitre'd part time 2 years ago while going to school... what so many people dont understand is that for most halls, the maitre'd tip is going (in addition to the maitre'd), towards all the people who assisted on the event... in every aspect... at most halls the tips are pooled & divided amongst the banquet managers who help you throughout the planning of the event, the managers who run the day to day operations of the hall, and the other maitre;ds. This is peoples livlihoods, its one thing if you were not told up front about tipping the maitre'd, but if you were told in advance how much you should budget to tip ...than we should understand that these are the people who worked hard to ensure the event went off without a hitch, these tips are there livlihood, and unless you had a bad experience or a bad wedding than you should be tipping within the guidelines that were explained to you when you booked your hall, again if they didnt tell you about the tip upfront, than that is a completly different story. How would you feel if you one week your pay check was significantly less? But it is most of the time the faults of the people who book your wedding, they dont explain it well enough & dont say exactly where the tip is going & the real reason they dont is because they probably feel bad asking you to tip them, even though only a portion of it is going to them. I think if more people just realized how many people & FAMILIES it effects when people tip poorly there wouldnt be such outrage at the recommended amounts people are quoted to tip.
