Re: Tipping the Maitre'D???
I may be wrong for saying this but.... WHY do we have to them them??!!! think about it.. when we signed our RH contract we paid thousands of dollars in tax & gratuities... 18% to be exact...and then on top of it we have to tip an additional $2-4 pp?? this tipping thing is getting out of control... Tell me if I'm being cheap.. I can handle it...

Re: Tipping the Maitre'D???
My place said $3-5. per person was a sufficient tip for him/her.

Re: Tipping the Maitre'D???
On the paperwork we got from the hall about all the final details it says 'Please bring your final payment and your tip for the Maitre'D of $450 2 days prior to the wedding'....is this normal????

Re: Tipping the Maitre'D???
Most places tell you a range to give the matre d on the day of the wedding depending upon I guess your service. I guess they are leaving the choice out of your hands unless you want to give them more on the day of. They are guaranteeing the mim gratuity i guess.

that's horrible & rude to assume that that's the tip that he deserves for services that weren't rendered as yet! what if the MD stinks.. then what?? well at least he'll get his $450 no matter how bad or good he does... I would drop off your final payment and tell whomever you have to tell that it was inappropriate for them to assume that the $450 would be paid prior to the reception...the nerve!

We are doing $2 per person on the day of. Not before hand. That is a little presumptuous!

Re: Tipping the Maitre'D???
our paper work said to give between 400-600 for the MD...our final MD was our third and I worked with him for a WEEK..he did a great job, but he didn't help with any planning or anything...so we gave him 300...plenty in my opinion.

Re: Tipping the Maitre'D???
We had a $300 fee built into our contract but I have a friend who's a matire d and that money gets split with a bunch of people. We gave ours $500 on top of that for 180 guests but he was amazing. I wish we could have given him more.

Re: Tipping the Maitre'D???
We planned on tipping what our hall recommended but the day of everyone was so great, so we added to our tip envelopes, and I think it was over $5pp.
Definitely follow what your banquet manager tells you, but we decided to bring a little extra in case anyone goes above and beyond.

Re: Tipping the Maitre'D???
I got married at Giorgio's in June. I gave the required $450 for the tip and that's it. The only other person I tipped from Giorgio's staff was our bridal attendant. I don't think you need to tip any more.

I totally agree. A tip should reflect the quality of the services delivered, it's not guaranteed. Our RH included a 'suggested' tip of $1000 for the Maitre d ($5 pp based on our minimum of 200) in the final paperwork. We were unhappy with certain things on the day of, so we took $$ out of the envelope before giving it to him at the end of the night. If everything had gone perfectly, he would've gotten the full $1000, but we just didn't feel that the quality of his work merited that much.
Tell your RH that you intend to tip (maybe more, maybe less than the $450) based on the quality of the service on the day of. Don't let them bully you into this!!!

If I were you Krista, I would just do about $4 pp, if his work is exceptional, then $5.

I have heard this before about Giorgios. My co-worker got married there last year. He told them he would pay the tip to the MD on the day of and they were fine with that. HTH!
