I know the gals are here too so I will post this for all.
I have heard horror stories about tipping the Matre D (sp?) and Bridal attendants from reading reviews with Nichole and talking to some friends.
I conisier myself a gerorous person when it comes to tipping. As a former Bartender, I know what it is like to get stiffed and get an large tip and with this, I try to make my waiter / waitresses night when the service is good. My bad tips are usually above the norm for people's regular tips.
Well, my friend gave $700 dollars to MD and 700 to the bridal attendant and both were disappointed. He had about 225 people (which translates to just over $3 / person. I would think that was great. How many working class people get $700 for 5 hours?
Then I was browsing through some reviews and came across somebody who was 'called out' when they gave $1000 (5/person). I was astonished.
Nic and I are having [about] 150 people and I though $500 was going to be good. it means Iwe gave over $3/person and with the cost of everything it is probably more then we can afford. I am no nervous that it is too little. It is insane to thimk a TIP should be conisidered small when you are dealing with those amounts.
What do you all think?
What do the BA and MD actully do? Do they split the money up with the waitors?
I am all messed up with this one.

Re: Tipping the MD and BA ? Guys and Gals
Don't worry, 500 is definitely enough and a very generous amount for having 150 guests. I agree that tipping has gotten completely out of control... I can't imagine anybody being disappointed with tips of several hundred dollars! I don't think they usually share the tips with waiters (even if they say they will!).

from my experience the md may split the tip with the banquet manager, chef, other md's if there are more working that night form other paerties of course. so it can be split between a few people but 500 is more than enough for 150 people. i have worked in catering for a long time and that sounds about right to me. where i was if there was more than one party going on the md's pool their tips together and then split. as far as the bridal attandent it is theirs to keep,no splitting. you can tip the other wait staff and bartenders seperate if you want. i might find out how many staff is working the night of and give the banquet manager an envelope with $20 for each of the other people working.but they should make money off their tabels so 20 is good enough for them.hope it helps

sorry for crashing fellas...hehe....but since i'm here...i think that $500 is definitely a good enough amount. BUT...if service is above and beyond the norm and you feel they deserve more...than that's fine too.

I agree. I used to work at a catering hall and that is what the normal tip would be for an attendent. Maybe the MD should get a bit more.
