HI ladies...I'm confused!!! I read in one post that tipping the officiant is considered insulting, and in another that you should tip the officiant...which of these is true? Are you ladies tipping or did you tip your officiant? Thanks so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: tipping the officiant?
I'd like to know too, I'm so confused on the issue of tipping. I would just tip everyone 20 bucks and be done with it... but gosh these rules are nuts.

Re: tipping the officiant?
I think it depends where the ceremony is at a church I would say no- that would be included in your 'donation' ---at a venue maybe something depending on the fee and if you think they went over and above what you wanted then maybe $50.00 JMO

Re: tipping the officiant?
We tipped at the church, we gave our priest a card thanking him with a gift card for $50, we just felt it was the right thing to do since he spent alot of time with us

Re: tipping the officiant?
I think we tipped an extra $20, we had to pay at the rehearsal, so we just included the extra in the envelope.

Re: tipping the officiant?
I never heard of tipping an officiant. We are paying our Rabbi a nice amount of money, which goes directly to him, I think that is just fine!

Thanks ladies....I think I will tip her depending on how much time she spends with us planning our ceremony. We'll see...thanks for letting me know I am not alone in feeling this way....

I definitely plan to. The ceremony is so important. We're meeting with her on Tues to go over details, so excited

Re: tipping the officiant?
if it's a religious wedding (i.e. physically IN a church or temple) you do not tip. it is part of their sacramental duties to marry.... for Catholic weddings in particualr, your donation to the church would cover that as the priests consider the donation to the parish as a tip.
if you've 'hired' an officiant like a justice of the peace or one of those outside vendors, yes, i would probably tip a little bit.

Re: tipping the officiant?
I am bringing in another pastor who I will definately tip and because I am a churc h member I don't pay a donation to the church and technically the official pastor of the church would get nothing although he is working with us too.
But during our first meeting with the church pastor to get the ball rolling... he said we can give him whatever we feel fit to, is appropriate for our budget, etc... BUT HE'S UPSET THE DJ USUALLY GETS MORE THAN HIM!! Is he counting the DJ tip or the Dj fee for booth, lights, plasma screens, etc?? Who knows!!

Re: tipping the officiant?
Wow, sorry you're dealing with this... I can't believe your pastor is upset that the DJ gets more than he does...it's not a competition, and the DJ is 'on' for so much longer than the officiant is...

Re: tipping the officiant?
I'm already paying $575 for a 30 minute ceremony from Captain Arnold...Do you think I should give more than that?

Re: tipping the officiant?
I don't understand why anyone would need to tip the officiant. A photographer/limo driver/floral deliverer works for someone else, so I think that a tip would be in line. But officiants set their own prices and all of the money goes directly to them, so I don't see the reason for giving them extra. If they spend a lot of additional time with you, perhaps a token gift?
