Tipping the priest

How much do you tip the priest and when do you give him the tip. I have no idea. Denise

I didn't know if people tip the priest.
So I gave the church the recommended donation, then I gave the priest $50.00 for himself.

You may want to do a search on the knot - I know I read an article there saying that you're not supposed to tip a priest b/c he's doing the marriage as part of a religious ceremony and not for profit. But I'm not 100% sure how it works.

I have read also that you are not supposed to tip the officiant-but some people may.

We are giving our priest a gift certificate to his favorite restaurant and inviting him to the reception.

I think something like that is a great idea--it's what I plan on doing. I would feel weird giving the Preist a tip, but I know peole do it and I'm sure it would be appreciated.

Yes, well technically the best man is supposed to hand it to him. But I had all the envelopes and didnt have time to give it to the best man, so I gave it to my cousin to hold, who in turn, gave the priest his (as he was leaving) LOL

yes - i have heard most people tip the preist $50-$100.

what about the alterboys?? what are you tipping them??

do you think $20 is good? or cheap?

I agree that tipping the priest is sometimes not done, because he is doing God's work. However, as one of the ladies suggested a nice gift to show your appreciation would be very tasteful. Perhaps ask someone at your church you deals with the money issues, they might know better on this issue. I think $20 to $30 for the altar boys is good, but that me.

I my cousin's uncle is a priest and he said that most people give him a tip for saying there wedding. We are tipping our priest because he is driving out and has to stay at the rectory the night of the rehearsal. We are also inviting him to the wedding.
