Tipping the Priest?
Are you suppose to tip the Priest?
Are you suppose to tip the Priest?
We paid the pastor a fee that was required. I don't believe there is any tipping necessary. We were given a range of a price to pay so if you are happy with the services you can pay the high end of the range. I guess if there is no fee for his services to begin with that a 'gift' would be acceptable.
Yes, for us too. The church requires a $250 'donation'. So would that mean that we should or shouldn't tip the priest additionally?
I paid a $300 'donation' and we didn't tip the priest. My priest told me that included his services, the organist, etc. We had no altar boys (or girls), but if you do, you should probably give them something.
We are paying 300 for in parish charges for my church and priest, 75 for the organist and 75 for the singer. (and we aren't even using the church's singer, we are using my former 6th grade teacher who sings at another parish but we were told you are expected to pay anyway.. argh.. all I know is that if I'm paying for her she atleast better be in the church.. lol, my Fi and I joke that we can have 2 part harmonies now.. lol
We are tipping the Altar Boys/ Girls which will most likely be my future little brother's in law:)
I don't think tipping is required above the 'donation'. I don't think the officients expect anything except a donation to their church. It can get out of hand. It's also courteous to invite the officient and his/her spouse to the wedding. Most decline unless you are pretty close to them. To me it seems a bit weird to 'tip' a priest -- does that makes sense?
Yes, it makes perfect sense. That is the exact reason why I was not comfortable tipping the priest, on the other hand, I didn't want to not tip him if it was expected. Thanks for the advice.

We are paying a $200 donation as well, and we are tipping the priest since we are having an outside priest come do our ceremony. We are also tipping the Altar Boys, and the guy who cleans up afterwards.
We paid $300 and tipped the priest $50.
It seems to me that you shouldn't need to tip the priest. I'm Catholic, and from my perspective, marriage in the church is another sacrememnt. Would you tip a priest for performing a baptism, communion or confirmation? If it is someone you know or have a relationship a gift might be nice or you could always invite the priest to the reception.
