Re: tipping the priest?
I don't believe you tip the priest. I know some girls who know the priest well and have bought them a small gift.

I have never heard of this.... I would think that they would fall under what you have already given the Church in your donation.
I bought a gift for one of the priests (nothing crazy, just a basket of Yankee Candle votives---we had a huge conversation about Yankee Candles when we met with him to set the date... he loves them.) The other priest that will be concelebrating the Mass is a good friend of FH's family so we will be giving him a more substantial and personalized gift.

Re: tipping the priest?
What about if you don't know the priest, it's just someone to marry you & FH? That's my situation, and I don't know. Plus, we're getting married at our reception location, so we're not paying church fees either. Do we tip the priest?
This tipping stuff is too confusing!!!

Re: tipping the priest?
Since you're not getting married at a church, marrying you is not part of his parish duties and you are not leaving a donation to a church, then i might give him a little something.... $50.00???? but then again, if you're getting married at a reception hall, you're probably paying him to come, so i wouldn't go too crazy.

Thanks for the advice. Yeah, we're paying him to come, so he's making the money directly, not going to the church. I still don't know what to do. I think it's only costing us $150 maybe for him to perform the service (don't remember exactly), so I don't know what to tip him- $50 would be too much, right?

Re: tipping the priest?
we didn't...that i know of. FIL ended up paying him for us (he could've told us that BEFORE the wedding day...cause I didn't need to be running around with that much cash...he also covered the hair/make up...so i had a handful to look after)
we hadn't planned on it originally though because our ceremony was not in a church, he was pocketing the whole fee.

Re: tipping the priest?
we aren't getting in a chuch either (we'll be at the RH, like you) and since he's pocketing the whole thing I'm not tipping him. I completely agree...this tipping business is out of control!

I agree completely I don't think we'll tip now, thanks for the advice ladies! He's making all the money that we're giving him, and that's plenty for 20 minutes of service (plus a quick rehearsal the night before!)

Our priest is also a very good friend of FH's family plus he's performed the marriages for three of FH's uncles....what kind of gift is appropriate??

Re: tipping the priest?
i tipped my priest $50 at the rehearsal. i didn't know i was supposed to do it until that day when one of my BM's, who has priests and nuns in her family, told me that it's a necessity. this is a girl who doesn't spend money freely and her family is very involved with the catholic church, so i listened to her and did it.
