Did anyone having a Catholic wedding tip their priest? If so, how much? I heard from someone that it is inappropriate to tip a priest but I heard from others that it's appreciated. Thanks for your help!

Re: Tipping the Priest
We're having an outside priest come to our church rather than a parish priest. We're 'tipping' him in the form of a donation to the charity that he runs.

Re: Tipping the Priest
I would like to know this as well. I know when I called the rectory one day I asked the woman and she said that a tip is always appreciated but it is up to us.
She said the $300 fee I am paying is for the church, not the priest. I'm really confused on what to do. I know I plan on tipping the alter boys.
What about the musicians if you are paying separately for them but through the church? Do you plan on tipping them too?

Re: Tipping the Priest
I really want to give ours something. The way I see it is that we are going to tip all of our other vendors & our priest is going to be performing the most important service of our wedding day... marrying us.

Re: Tipping the Priest
We did not tip our priest. We had to give him a donation of $450 just to have the wedding in the church. We tipped the altar servers.

Re: Tipping the Priest
We had a priest and Deacon at our mass, and we tipped them both. We gave the Deacon $100 and the priest $200. It was well appreciated!!

Re: Tipping the Priest
My 'donation' is $750 so I don't think I'll be tipping the priest
