tipping the priest?

tipping the priest?

Is anyone tipping the priest? Giving him something in addition to the 'donation' the church tells you you have to give? The priest who's marrying my daughter is a very nice man. We don't know him well, but he's been working with them thru this whole preparing for the wedding process. The woman at the church said to give him $. He's a big Dallas Cowboys fan. My daughter was thinking of a gift certif. to a sporting store (if they have Cowboys items)? She was thinking $50, I thought that may be too much. Is cash better and if so, how much? Thanks

hmm this is just my opinion but i think for Catholic priests it's a bit inappropriate to give money (my uncle is a priest) -- i think in-kind gift (food basket that they can share w other priests in the ministry) would be appropriate -- that's just me though ...

I may give him an extra $100 & call it an additional 'donation'

Agreed.

It's old-fashioned to give the priest cash at the wedding (though it used to be regularly done). Some people still do it, but I thought it wouldn't be appropriate at all for our situation. Our parents sent the priest a thank you card with a nice gift certificate for a restaurant after the fact.
