Tipping the Priest

Tipping the Priest

Last min question-
We already made the 'donation' to the church and paid the organist. I know I already have to tip the alter boys, singer, and organist but what about the priest? Any suggestions. I cant seem to get a straight answer out of any of my research.

We did not tip our priest nor did we tip the singer/organist. We paid them cash directly. I did not read anywhere about tipping the priest, singer or organist.

I've always heard its a huge no no to offer a tip to clergymen. I would say if it is your families church or a close clergy member a small token of thanks (thank you card, chocolates, etc) but other than that it's not called for.

Omg -- wait we have to tip the priest, organist and alter boys?! We're already going to have to make the 'donation'....that's crazy.

For my brothers wedding he didn't know he had to tip the alter boys or anything so after the ceremony the priest pulled him aside and said 'don't forget to tip everyone'- my entire family was in shock to say the least! So since my brother didn't have any cash on him my dad had to run to the bank which was around the corner and tip everyone.

I did not tip anyone, esp after they requested cash! !!

The priest told us that the 'donation' we give will include the price for everyone's service (organist, choir, etc.) and that they do not expect any extra cash. I've also heard that tips should not be offered to Catholic priests. So we're not going to tip anyone.

We did not tip him. I do plan on sending him a thank you when I send all the others, because he really did such a nice mass for us. But no, we didn't tip.

Did you tip the alter boys, organist, and such?

We were given an envelope when we booked our church... it listed the 'donation' to the church, tip for the organist, singer, 2 altar servers. We paid those appropriately and did not tip anything other than that.

The 'donation' amount I was told by my church included fees for everyone involved, priest, organist. I'm not sure about the alter boys/girls so I'll ask when I meet with the priest next week. I was going to tip whomever had to clean up after my ceremony.

I believe we only tipped the alter boys. Don't think we tipped the organist or singer, but I honestly didn't handle it so I can't say for sure... but I don't think so.

We tipped the altar servers, and also gave a small tip to the priest. We were told it was discretionary, but thought it was a nice thing to do. We did not tip the organist/singers because we were explicitly told that the 'donation' money would cover them

Hmm... FH & I were just planning to give a nice donation. I hope that is acceptable.
