When I booked my band, the booking agent told me that typically bands prefer not to be fed during the reception but rather tipped at the end of the night. She explained that it was an either/or situation. I decided that we would just tip them in cash and let the reception hall know that they aren't going to be fed.
The banquet manager told my mom that it is the rule that we have to pay for their meals. Is this typical? Do you both feed them and tip the band members?

I've never heard of it as an either/or thing. I think it's a law that you must provide them with a meal. We tipped our DJ/MC and fed them if that's any help.

i'm using a faze 4 band and i was told the same thing. i'm not sure what we plan to do.

when i was checking out bands it was preferred that you feed them but not necessary. tips were a different thing all together. u definitely have to tip them . i know when my dad was in a band he said the entire reason he loved to do weddings was cuz of the free food!

We tipped and fed the band. I couldn't imagine NOT doing both.

NO not at all. MY BM told me to do just that... offer them a tip and not get fed.

I actually just met with my BM today and he said that it is often either/or....I am feeding all my vendors and tipping as well

The way we handled it was some of the band kind of sneeked in the CH and ate. Then we paid for a four meals during the reception. And with the few no shows we had, the whole band ended up eating and we didn't have to pay. We also gave them an additional tip at the end of the night.
