I was doing my envelopes this week and I feel like I'm tipping people too much or not enough. Please help :(
DJ -- the DJ I am using owns the company, we already already paying 2K+ (with all the add ons) -- How much should I tip the OWNER? Do I have to tip at all? Right now I have $100 in his envelope but I feel that I already paid him a lot.
MC -- I feel that $100 is good since he's not the owner
Flower Delivery -- $30
Videographer -- My videographer is the owner of the company, right now I have $100 in the envelope - is that to much? I'm already paying $1400 for the services.
Officiant -- No tip, he's already getting $500 for 1/2 hour of his time
Makeup/Hair -- Both are owners of the company, and are doing every person in my bridal party so they are making out with at least 1K that day, no tip (unless i get extremely over the top service)
Photo booth attendant - $50
Maitre De- $400 ($3.50ish per person)
Bridal Attendant - $100
Photographer -- He's a friend of mine with a ton of experience. I gave him $60 for doing our engagement shoot and he didn't want any money at all for my wedding, but I gave him $250 last week and I told him I'm going to give him $250 more. he didn't even want to take that
Be honest -- what do you think?? I only have a few more days to fix the tip envelopes

Ok I'm gong to be 100% honest....probably going tip ish for my.comment. But I totally 1 million % do not agree that u do not tip the owners of a company. The money they charge has to pay themselves and the company bills (the officent I'll give you, other than a license what company bills could he have!) But the dj has to pay for gas to the venue, equipment, maintaince of the equipment, licenses. Same with make up artist, they have to supply all that make up. Idk if you have ever watched that old tlc show Tabitha takes over our whatever it was, I learned after that show that 9x out 10 the owners actually take less out of pocket when they do a job. if not only equal what thier staff gets. And if it's more it's not THAT much more.
As for how much to give everyone I'm not 100% sure my self but my thought is major vendors (dj, photo, video) $100 secondary vendors limo, flowers, photo booth, assistants $30-$50. ???

All of the DJ items you said are in the 2K++ that I already paid him. What else would that money go towards? Same with makeup artists- All that money we already give them pays for their labor and their makeup that they use.
Thank you for being honest, but I don't agree on those points. I've read in a lot of places you don't have to tip owners. I doubt a $100 tip is going to cover their maintenance and equipment.

To be honest I think the whole point in tipping is showing that you're happy with that persons service & appreciative. So whether someone is an owner or not, if they provided you with great service, they should be tipped, doesn't have to be alot. I also feel if you're not happy with someones service, they shouldn't be tipped.

I am not tipping any owners. I am paying for their meals and the money I am paying them goes directly in their pockets. If they for some reason go WAY above and beyond, I may throw them a small tip, but that's it.

I have to say I don't think its right to not tip the hair and makeup artist at all. If you are against tipping owners of companies but you are tipping other owners why not them too?

I agree. I am the type of person who tips based on how they are not on whats expected. You have to give what you feel they deserve and what you can afford.

I don't think tips should be expected. I think what you wrote was perfectly fine. I think I would do the same tipping as you- I don't think I would tip owners either... It's just my opinion. I don't think owners lose money... I know many owners of different companies and they get paid more money than everyone else. If I feel I was to tip at the end of the night bc there was superior service than I may change my mind... But people are charging significantly more money just because it is a wedding. Make up application doesn't cost 100+ dollars everyday.. It's just bc it's a wedding. They make a killing!

I would keep your envelopes and lots of 20s and then tip based on your experience. Tips don't have to be a lot but the simple fact of giving one shows your appreciation of their hard work. For example yesterday I figured out my bridesmaid dress for today didn't fit right someone messed up with the alterations, I brought it into a dry cleaner and the owner quickly fixed it in an hour but just a temporary fix. Not that it was a lot but she charged me $25 and I gave her a $5 tip. The look on her face just made me feel so good bc she helped me so much and she knew how much I appreciated it with something small and simple. So owner or not sometimes a little extra can go a long way.
