The gratuities are included in my price .... do I still need to tip the maitre'd???

you still have to tip EVERYONE. I have come to see whether or not gratutiies are 'included' you still tip everyone and their brother.

My contract clearly states - INCLUSIVE of tip... The original quoted price was Plus tax and gratuity - when we went with an off season Fri - the contract price changed to the same cost per person but Inclusive of tax and tip - so why would I need to tip anyone - doesn't this defeat the cost savings?

If your contract specifies the maitre d's tip, then I wouldn't tip him any additional money. That is the tip. (*Unless of course, you feel that s/he really went out of her/his way and deserves it.)

No joke, one of my friends was actually told by her hall that the staff never sees that 'Gratuity'. That pisses me off b/c I'm paying 18 % gratuity. I also found while shopping for a venue that people got defensive when I asked if the gratuity went to the staff. One guy actually told me that it isn't my concern where that money goes. Hell it's my money!!!, isn't that my concern?

You pi$$ of a lot of people. They are working very hard, and don't get paid very much. They depend on the tips because the hall is taking all the rest of the money. I know its beyond annoying to give out tips, but I would never be able to not tip, unless the service was utterly horrendous.

Usually it's $3-5/person. We did $5 because our Maitre'D was WONDERFUL!

Even though they add 18% for gratuity, it is 'suggested' that you tip your bridal attendant and Matre'D separately.
