Re: Tips on Hair straightening??
Which one do you have? I have tried a lot and the only ones that work on my hair (it's really thick) are the professional expensive ones- ther ceramic ones with the teeth. I usually section my hair out and flat iron each section. - but you still need to blow dry it pretty straight before using the iron. It takes a while but lasts longer. You can spray some heat spray on it to protect it or a shine spray. I can't live without my flat iron!!

I HAVE THE SOLUTION FOR YOU! It is called thermal reconditioning. It is what all of the celebs do. It is a Japanese techinique that actually changes the curly bonds between your hair molecules to straight bonds. It does not damage your hair. It actually improves its condition. It makes it perfectly straight and really shiny. You never have to blow dry your hair again. It will always look perfect. I did it and I am so happy that I did. It has saved me a ton of time and aggravation. Your hair never frizzes up in humidity. Best of all, you hair can still curl if you use a curling iron or curlers.
It is very expensive though. Typically it runs from $750-1,000. I do know one place which is $150 and does a perfect job. The place is a dump and no one speaks any English, but people come from all over to get it done there. Check out www.thermalreconditioning.com for more info.

Hi there! I also have very curly hair, but what I do is have the salon do it when I want it straight! Otherwise I look like I put my finger in a socket!

What merf99 said. I spray Bumble & bumble Styling Lotion on my hair b4 ironing it.
I'm like you holly - I love my wavy/curly hair...but ever once in a while I like to change it up.

Re: Tips on Hair straightening??
I usually blow dry my hair as straight as I can get it before the flat iron. My sister has this iron (ill find out the name, I think its called sapphire) that works like a charm. It was about $100, but a lot better than my hot tools one. I use straighting stuff that you can get at nordstrums or saks, I cant remember the name, but its something like phytophage, it comes in a blue box. That stuff is amazing. It is sold out a lot of times, so I use this stuff called Lanza strait-line. It comes in a cylinder container, with a pump, and the product is orange. I got it at Tri-County flea market, and this stuff is one of the best ive tried (and i have tried everything). Make sure you use a big round brush that is large, and has the boars hair like bristles on it. Regular brushes dont hold the hair tight enough to straighten it. Put your hair into sections, and dry the front first. Also, dry your hair to somewhat damp before you start, if the hair is sopping wet it makes it harder to do. After I am done blow drying/ironing, I spray this Alterna stuff on it. It comes in a small orange mettalic spray can. It takes out the frizz, and smells really good. I also bring that with me to rid of frizz during the day. Sorry so long, but I know how hard it is to find good products to straighten hair, and just trying to help. P.S I hear that the Japanese straighteing doesnt work that well on people who have very curly hair. It will straighten the ends, but once the roots start to grow in, the curls return, and you have to blow dry straight once again.

Re: Tips on Hair straightening??
The japanese technique straightens very curly hair, not just the roots!!! Of course, the new hair will look curly as it grows in because it has not received the treatment.
Other than that treatment, Str8 from Rusk is a good gel to use. Also make sure that your blow dryer is a powerful one. Artec's Texture is also good.
