Titanium bands

Titanium bands

FH wants a Titanium band because his friend who works with him says it' s lighter and better to wear at work because it 'snaps in half'. Is this true? FH said he would wear this everyday and have a platinum to wear for special occasions.

it snaps in half?

That is what I said. I have no clue but FH insists that is what it does!

It would be better for FH because he works with Iron and steel so if god forbid something fell on his hand it would snap in half and break.

Re: Titanium bands

This debate has been going on since I joined the boards

-Some people say that Titanium can't be cut.. so its a horrible choice if you are in construction or use your hands. They say that, god forbid you hurt your finger and it swells you can't cut titanium and you'd have to cut your finger. I talked to a jewler about this and he said thats why he stopped selling them, that there were too many lawsuits.

-Lots of people say its poppycock.

-Blue Nile claims to sell PURE titanium that can be cut because it is not combined with other hard metals.

I honestly have no idea who to believe and Im leaving it up to FH

I don't know about this, but FH got a tungsten band...and that is the only one he wants bc it looks cool to him and it is still light on his finger.

I'd say let the man have whatever ring he wants if he doesn't want a matching one...he has to wear it and be happy with it.

When you go to the jeweler, ask about the snappng thing....i'm not sure if it's true.

FH has also looked into a tungsten band. It's a bit lighter. Not so sure about the being able to cut off/not being able to cut off...I can ask my FSIL she works at a jewerly store.

I thought titanium DOES NOT break?

Re: Titanium bands

maybe-- as another alternative...

tungstun (probably not spelled correctly)

it's great and scratch resistant-- but can be sawed if he gets his hand stuck in a vice! you can literally take a blade and scratch it-- it won't scratch, dent, fade, nothing-- so that's what i'm getting for FH b/c knowing him lol the ring will be destroyed! and i don't want to have to worry about it.

we really liked the way it looked also...

and then right after we saw it-- we ran into a guy who was wearing one and he also had a movado made out of Tungsten... so I said to him, they make movados out of that too?? he goes yeah and it was expensive too! and it's totally 'everyday life proof'... which is great-- so the watch matching the band looked really sharp!

so for our wedding gift i'm buying FH a movado to match his band FH picked a tungsten band with three diamonds in it... it's really pretty.

ETA: the band itself was very reasonably priced including the diamonds-- i think the movado was expensive b/c it's a movado lol and the guy said the salesperson told him the tungsten watches are the new hot thing
