My FH bought me TIVO for christmas and we just finally hooked it up or tried to. We don't have regular phone jack connection (we have optimum voice) and it does not work with TIVO. We got the wireless router and everything and it works but when it needs to get updates it has to be connect to a phone line which we do not have. I am so upset because I love TIVO but it is too much of a pain in the butt to keep having to take it my parents house to do updates when if I had a phoneline it would do it automatically. So if anyone is interested just let me know.

We have Optimum voice and Tivo and it works fine. I'll ask DH how it works...

We still haven't connected our TIVO to our phone line---this allows them to trace your card and all your purchases. We've had ours for 326 days and it works with no problems. Whenever I want to order PPV from Direct TV because Dish isn't working, I just pop online and order it through our account. It doesn't need the phone line connected. Dont' sell it---there is a way to hook everything up.

we had the same problem so we got dvr from comcast instead. but, i miss my tivo. it was so much better! if anyone knows how it works, i'd love to know. i think tivo said that we would have to bring it to someone else's house for the initial set up so it would dial up, but after that it should be able to update itself without going through a phone line.

We have our TIVO hooked up through our OOL service! It works great and never has to dial in because its hooked up through the internet!

We had the same problem with our Tivo, it wouldn't work with Optimum Voice. We were able to return the Tivo though...are you able to bring it back to the store your purchased it at?

We have 2 tivo's and optimum voice. It does work you need to buy a wireless adapter and a router. And yes for the intital set-up we needed to bring it to a land line because it needs to make that one connection. We have had no problems with it. TIVO can send someone to your house to set it all up.

The same thing happened to me... I called TIVO and they told me I need to set it up through a network (your computer) not the phone. Optimum voice doesnt give a good enough signal or something like that.
WE had to buy a wireless broadband router and a USB adapter.
