What are the rates and how much of a pain was it to get it installed and such?

Re: TIVO PEOPLE
We ended up paying something like $200 for lifetime service when it first came out. DH installed it himself so I doubt it's that complicated.

Re: TIVO PEOPLE
We have tivo and I pay 12.95 a month. The 40 hour box was 250.00 and it took like 20 minutes to set up and you leave it connected to the phone line over night to download it was pretty easy, however then you need a splitter so you can watch tv and record something else...i didnt know that..
we pay the $13/month...and there was an option for $299 for the life of the box...but thats 2 1/2 years and I have a feeling that we would upgrade in that time...OR DH would break it trying to put a bigger harddrive in...
it was very easy to install (well for DH) I sat on my tush and watched...so it was easy for me

Re: TIVO PEOPLE
We have Directtv, so the 35 hour box was only $100 and came with free installation through Directtv. We also get the service for free if you have the premier choice package, otherwise I think they charge $5 a month.

Shamma, You would have to be a peep musher to get TIVO..

yes...but some cable companies/satalite companies are putting out their own systems...which gives Tivo an advantage if you decide to switch companies...
Tivo is only a recorder - albeit a fancy one- that has the TV guide listing...and tries to figure out what you like...and records what you tell it to...
you can get the box at any electronic store (I got ours at best buy...free shipping and I found an online coupon)...and then you follow the instructions and sign up for service online...

Re: TIVO PEOPLE
We got TIVO for a wedding gift from my SIL. It was a bit of a pain to set up but that's only because you need a phone line and we don't have one. But once it was set up, it was a breeze. We also paid the lifetime membership price. I highly recommend it!

Re: TIVO PEOPLE
I got my 80-hour TiVo (with lifetime service) from an Ebay auction for $540.
I just hooked it up last night, it took less than an hour.
