Re: Tivo Question

i think it uses the telephone to get the listing of the shows so it would be need all the time.

if you have cablevision, dvr box is a good alternative to tivo

Re: Tivo Question

The phone jack is needed once every two weeks -- it doesn't need to stay plugged in all the time.

Re: Tivo Question

If you want to have the TiVo and you a cable modem/computer, you can also have the TiVo access the program information via the internet. It can be hardwired or wireless if you have a Linksys or other wireless router.

I know it sounds complicated but it wasn't too bad. I mostly guessed my way through the set-up and it turned out ok. Now I can look at pictures and listen to music from the computer on the TV through the TiVo. I can also program the TiVo to record something from anywhere where I can get online and log into my TiVo page....

I love our TiVo - it saved my relationship!

Re: Tivo Question

a DVR box is just like TIVO...it will record shows and you can watch em at anytime.

TIVO just did it first and is popular... indirectly, they are one in the same.

To install a DVR (silver box from CV), you just exchange with the box you are using now.
additonal charge of $5 per month will be added to your bill

TIVO network setup i didnt know about but is very easy to do. Do you have a router?
When the person before was talking about playing music via TIVO, the TIVO is acting like a mediacenter and will allow you to use computer stuff to the TV... that is a great feature as you may have mp3 you want to listen to but not on the computer.

TIVO you have to pay a monthly subscription for and you have to buy eqipement. same say its worth it, and others dont think it is. My problem, is when you buy a TIVO box, your subscription is only good for that box. So if you decided to upgrade, you have to get a new subscirption.

i hope this helps

I have a DVR box from cablevision. It's pretty much the same as Tivo. I think it's $10 extra a month.

I don't know about surprise installing it, but I could talk you through it if you get the TiVo. If you get a DVR through your cable company - they will come and do everything I think.

At the time we got the TiVo, cable co's didn't have DVR boxes so there wasn't an option. Plus, my Tivo has 'smart' features like the wishlist, autorecommend & record, etc... that can be very cool if you want something with more features...guys usually like features!

Cablevision offers DVR? I'm going to be moving to LI, so I was looking into getting Tivo because I thought Cablevision didn't have DVR. (I use Time Warner now in Queens.)

Re: Tivo Question

We have TiVo, but don't always have it plugged into the wall jack, because it's across the room. They need it for the initial set up, and you need to have it plugged in if you want a Pay per view movie. And every now and then you will get a message asking to dial into the system. But it does not need to be plugged in all the time.
