TIVO, Replay TV etc.

Have any of you tried these???

I'm trying to think of something for DH's birthday and thought he might like one of these. Are they like a cable service, do they require a subscription??? I need more info...

Thanks!

I have TiVo and they are also a client of ours, so I know a little about them. It is the greatest invention ever made. I rarely watch live TV any more and if I do, it so cool that you can pause it if you need to do something else.

TiVo does require a subscription you can do one of 2 things
* pay monthly $12.95
* purchase lifetime subscription for that machine for $300

You do need a land line to set it up and to have updates to your channel guide come through. After the initial set up, you can connect TiVo to a home network, where updates will be done via the net. TiVo works with most cable provider, so your channel line up will be accessible via the DVR.

Replay is also a DVR but from what I have heard they are not as popular anymore. Not sure about fees associated with Replay

we have TiVo and use it with our DirectTV and we LOVE it!!!! Your husband will LOVE it....Direct TV is a satellite service that you'd use inplace of the IO cablevision
