I was having a conversation with DH last night and don't how we got started on this, but we were talking about potty training children.
He said that he would go with his dad and watch him do #1 and eventually followed suit.
Now doing #2 is a different story, that was harder to learn .
His thoughts are to teach a kid- that when one of us has to do #2 and our child has to do #2 as well we should both go into the bathroom together.
Meaning the adult sits on the regular toilet and the child sits on his training potty and at the same time we both do our business.
I know this will be my child, but I do not know if I would want to do this.
Can't I just put him on the potty tell him/her what to do and check on him/her to make sure it is ok.
Am I being ridiculous????

Re: TMI- potty training question
I agree with YOU! I do not think pooping (or peeping for that matter) is a family activity! That's something you teach them to do on their own. Of all the children I know and been around during their potty training, not once have I heard about mommy's and daddy's joining them!
Who knows maybe we're wrong...

Re: TMI- potty training question
Well, when you're the parent of a toddler, you don't always have 'alone' time I have been in the bathroom for #1 plenty of times when Paul has joined me! If I am going to be in there for a longer period of time (ahem!), then I make sure DH watches Paul, b/c he cannot be out of my sight or else something might happen.
Anyway, re: the potty training...I am trying to use the times where he barges in on me as an opportunity to plant certain seeds in his head associated w/the potty and the bathroom. For example, after Mommy is done, I close the lid and let him flush for me. Then we go to the sink and wash our hands together. I have not introduced him to the actual potty chair yet, but I am going to sometime this spring/summer.
And when it comes to training, experts say it's easier to teach a kid to go #2 on the potty b/c they usually follow a certain 'routine' with bowel movements, so you can 'time' them better....but with #1, they are so used to just letting it out whenever they feel the urge, that it's much more difficult to train them to hold it until they get to the potty.
I am DREADING this experience, BTW...

Re: TMI- potty training question
Claud you should get the Video 'It's Potty Time'
We use it at work and the kids love it. It has songs and you can laugh along with it. One of the songs is called Super duper pooper
We end up being a BIG part of potty training, so we have lots of stuff on hand
