To all the Newlyweds- Question about Gown

To all the Newlyweds- Question about Gown

My wedding gown has spaghetti straps, did anyone of you have this type of dress too? It seems a little heavy and when I went for my last fitting, it left red marks on my shoulders (but then again I was moving the straps up and down, trying to get comfortable in it). Did this bother any of you?

I also had spaghetti straps on my dress and it was VERY heavy. it did leave indents on my shoulders the day of, but no red marks. I did not even notice until after the wedding and DH pointed it out. I would not worry too much about it.

Someone told me that you can buy body tape that would hold the dress to your body(you would put it in between the dress and above your chest) I wonder if this make a deference? Thanks.

No, I really like the way it looks, I don't like strapless. I just wish I would have realized this before.

That sounds painful to me.... Did you ask the people doing your alterations if there was anything you could do? Maybe go back and leave the dress on for a little while, see if it is really going to bother you.

I agree, strapless makes the dress look completely different and I did not want to worry about it falling down all night!

I felt the same way, it does change the look and I didn't want to worry about it falling down either. I can ask them if there is anything I can do. I just felt like the straps were falling, they probably weren't, but I felt like they were. The seamstress said they are fine and maybe the body tape would help. God, I hope so! It is a heavy dress with beading, it doesn't have a train, but it is still heavy.

Hi Sweetd--I'm not a newlywed, but I can feel for your predicament. Just out of curiosity, did you try on any (strapless) dresses that had a 'safety belt' as I referred to them. In a few of the heavier gowns I tried on, they had an elastic band around the waist area that gave added support to the midsection of the dress. You couldn't see it through the gown, and for the short time I wore them, it really DID seem to help support the dress. Maybe if you add this, it would take away some of the weight from the straps.

Re: To all the Newlyweds- Question about Gown

Personally, I would treat the dress as if it were strapless, and just add the straps for looks. By that I mean either have cups sewn in and the dress made very tight so it stays up on its own, or wear a tight fitting long line bra that is sewn or velcroed to the gown so it stays up. I just wore a gown to my son's wedding on Sunday and that's what we did. They sewed in cups and after the top was fitted perfectly, they added straps because I didn't want it bare.
I hope this makes sense. If the gown stays in place on its own without the straps in place then you shouldn't have the weight pulling it so the straps cut into you. Please don't ignore it. If it bothers you during a fitting imagine what 12 hours will feel like.
Good luck.

Thank you! Would the seamstress have this?

Thank you everyone, for your replies. I will see if the seamstres can fit me in so I can get a waist band or something else. Thanks!

If you are asking about the cups, I would guess the seamstress would have them, or at least know where to go to buy them. The one at Lord and Taylor's in the city did.
