To BrideAnna

She sent me this email, and since I can't find her in my search on previous posts, I decided to write her an open answer.

You're a professional musician & you're not getting a professional video. That is so ironic. I guess you're counting on the photographes to capture the music and other audio?

There are several high quality LI videography companies that do unobtrusive, custom packages

My Answer:

Yes, I am a professional musician, and during 8 years I worked in a professional orchestra in my native country, our weekly concerts were recorded and transmited in national TV, the same with our tours. Some even were transmited in other Spanish speaking countries ... but I never ever videotaped any personal event.

I guess that it has to do with how one is brought up. I have notice that here, most families videotape most of their intimate events, and that is wonderful. But at least up to my generation, in Venezuela that is not something that every family did. I don't have any videotapes of birthdays or parties, but I do have cassettes and videos of my important performances. I still videotape my recitals, and if there is a concert that I liked from those at school (I am for my third performance diploma at QC), I request a copy in audio most of the time.

Video for me is attached to my musical life, not my personal ... we don't even own a video camara! ... however, we own very good photo cameras!

All my personal events, travels, and family reunions are printed in pictures. They don't have sound it is true, but it does not matter to me. I truly enjoy looking at my albums and remembering how it was like when a picture moment happened. I guess that I can say, that the sound is inside of my mind.

I know there are very fine companies that can be 'unobtrusive' ... but it does not matter to me, because the sole presence of a camera in a private affair held by myself, does not make confortable. FH is even stronger about it ... he even did not like the photographer's idea too much. But then, that was about the only thing I was not about to give in. I wanted my pictures, and I am getting them: in color and B&W photojournalism.

May be it is very ironic that someone in the 'sound' industry wouldn't go for a video tape in her wedding ... but once more: diversity is what makes life so wonderful!

good luck!

My future Matron of Honor was adament against video when she got married. She thought it would be a waste of money. A co-worker changed her mind right before her wedding. She told my MOH that it was the only way she could see & listen to the voice of her recently deceased mother. (Sorry to get sentimental here.)

Anyway, my MOH is married almost 2 years and her niece (FG) watches the video all the time. My MOH is appreciating her video & photo's more with passing time. Her in-laws moved across the country and as she advised me 'it's once in a lifetime that you have everyone you love in one place'.

I understand you more after reading what you wrote and think it great's that your being original. I'm planning on getting video, despite that I don't like my speaking voice. (Maybe they can put some music over our vows. LOL)

Take Care
