Re: To cupcake or not to cupcake
I don't have pictures but this is something I'm considering too.... I like it, and I've seen it done really well. If that's what you want, it's your wedding, go for it!

Re: To cupcake or not to cupcake
I've seen gorgeous chocolate wedding cakes--in fact, I've seen gorgeous wedding cakes in every color. I was just admiring one in MS Weddings, a yellow one covered with tiny white daisies. Lovely.
We're actually doing both for our wedding: a large tiered cheesecake, and a big tower of cupcakes. Also a chocolate groom's cake, but that will have whipped cream frosting. The cheesecake will be decorated with ribbon and fresh roses, and the cupcakes will be frosted in pastel versions of our wedding colors, with flowers and pearlized sugar on top. Can't wait to see how they come out! And the cupcakes will be 40% yellow, 40% chocolate, and 20% carrot cake. Personally, I love carrot cake, but apparently not everyone does. It's cake, and it's good for you! What's not to love?

Chocolate frosted cakes look cool! I dont have any pics, but the last wedding I went to had this (Profiterole AKA croquembouche) as a cake, I wish I had it as my cake.

Re: To cupcake or not to cupcake
I Love the cupcake idea but I have heard it is a lot more expensive so we didn't want to go that route. As far as chocolate, do it if you like uit. The place we are having our reception had a chocolate cake at the food tasting: chocolate mousse and banana filling. OMG! Layers of white and chocolate cake..DELICIOUS!
I love the cup cake idea, but I don't care anymore anything is fine. As long as it looks amazing.

I don't know if it's more expensive, it might depend what you get and where. We get a cake with our package from the hall, and the baker didn't charge us any extra for the cupcake tower. We met with the baker--Black Forest Bakery--told him what we wanted, and he specifically said it didn't cost more, and I know that many things, like fondant icing, do cost more. So I think it depends.

Re: To cupcake or not to cupcake
originally I wanted to do this as well but FH demanded we have a regular cake! who knew. but the ideas I had previously were, cupcakes, cream puffs, fruit tarts, and chocolate mousse cups.

Re: To cupcake or not to cupcake
why don't you have both. have a cake on the top tier and cupcakes on the bottom. that way, you have the best of both worlds.

I think the cupcake thing is a fantastic idea!! FH is more traditional though, so we're going to get a regular cake!

I really like the idea of the cupcakes, but it can be costly and no you are not crazy for wanting a chocolate frosted wedding cake.
